So, about 'House'...

The fuck?
Seriously, Cameron is so much more fucked up than I'd dreamed. I've been annoyed at Sam on SG-1 this season for acting like a giddy teen girl, but Cameron was so much worse tonight.
A) Sam would never pout around her house while she was needed at her job that, oh, what's the phase? Saves lives. Of course, Sam would also never quit out of martyrdom, either.
B) Sam would never say that Jack calling her a 'good scientist' wasn't a good enough reason to be on the team. Getting respect from your CO is a good thing.
C) Sam would never blackmail her boss into a date. And that's where Cameron made me go nearly speechless with rage.
"I'll come back to work if you date me?" After he's made it clear that he's not interested and yet also that he really wants her back at the job? She's seeking romantic favors before she'll come back to work. Pretty sure that there's a phrase for that, too.
Honestly, I'm not entirely sure that I've ever felt less respect for a tv character and for the people who wrote her. If we're honestly supposed to see her behavior as at all positive, then House is not the show for me.
It makes me want to apologise for Sam for being so hard on her, because there was clearly a lower place to which she could sink and yet didn't.

Date: 2005-05-06 08:17 am (UTC)I'm going to see how they handle it. Because I really like parts of the show. If they show any meta-approval of Cameron's actions, I'll probably end up bailing. As of now, this could just be a stupid way of them showing that she's as screwed up as the rest of the characters.
Although it would be good to grant Sam a bit more respect then I've felt for her this past season.
Yeah. That part is a little helpful. Of course, saying "At least Sam wouldn't resort to actual verbal emotional manipulation that borders on sexual harassment," isn't actually saying much, but it's better than what I had before. Of course, it's always possible that the reason she hasn't tried it is because she's smart enough to know that it wouldn't work.

Date: 2005-05-06 09:38 pm (UTC)*nods* One of the quickest ways to get me frothing at the mouth is to say 'Detox' is the show's best episode. Unfortunately, this is in part responsible for me retreating back a bit from the rest of the fandom, because that gets said a lot.
And thank you very much for pointing out the link!
*grins* Well, that was sort of enlightened self-interest; I'm partially responsible for PDH. I was complaining and complaining about the main comm back in the day, and finally Tris said, "Oh for god's sake," and made that. Thus, House fandom has a meta comm run and moderated by someone who doesn't even watch the show (or particularly like what she has seen of it).

Date: 2005-05-10 02:23 am (UTC)I adore House and Wilson's interplay, but I find Chase the most interesting character on his own.

Date: 2005-05-14 10:53 am (UTC)Oh my. That's really a nice insight. And yes, if you like Chase, you really need to see Cursed.

Date: 2005-05-04 11:12 pm (UTC)A phrase like: "Sexual harassment"? And, since Cameron is attractive, what do you want to bet we'll see that ever brought up?

Date: 2005-05-06 08:20 am (UTC)Exactly. Something doesn't stop being wrong just because the genders are switched.

Date: 2005-05-06 08:21 am (UTC)I'm going to wait and see how they handle it next week, but I'm really watching them carefully, because having their one female underling acting this way is not of the good.

Date: 2005-05-06 08:23 am (UTC)That's part of what bugs me the most -- this show can be really good. A good show that really sucks at one thing is much more annoying than a sucky show in general.
