Sets up the premise of the story, plus it lets you know who's talking. I like it. It's clean.

'Who? What? Why?' Is what I'm hoping people would think.

There are only four people that he completely trusts.
I like it. It sets up the rest of the snippet.

Guy Talk
"Lance. I need to talk to you." Since it was Joey, Lance quelled the urge to indulge in a hangover-induced homicide.
The sentence the inspired the rest of the fic. I love that I point out right away who's doing what and why.

Damaged
He wasn't quite at the point of wanting to kill Lance, but the way this party was going, it wasn't going to take long.
Who wants to kill Lance? Because of a party? Why? It sets up JC's feelings nicely, I think.
