Canon Chick/Non-Canon Relationships

I'm big on adoring canon. Which I've talked about. So, why aren't any of my preferred 'ships canon? Even the really popular ones (Clark/Lex, Fraser/RayK), they aren't canon. What, am I allergic to canon relationships?

Or is it that I like seeing something new in the fics I read? I mean, I want Buffy/Angel, I can watch the early season of Buffy. If I want Buffy/Spike, I could watch the later seasons. It's there on screen. I have no need to see it go further. So, I read the Farscape transcripts and the John/Aeryn thing is a huge deal: in canon. They have a kid. They have sex. They have all the relationshippy "I love you" dren. I don't need to see it in fic because it's there in the transcripts. John and Aeryn are 'shipped by the show. They don't need my help.

And then, of course, once I start to like a pairing, it's hard to stop. So I'm already attached to John/Chiana before I find out about Kansas, so that doesn't really make a difference to me. Incidentally, does John ever find out that Karen is Chiana? Does he make that connection?

I like having the framework of canon and using it to explore the things that we don't see. From what I've read, we see J/A in schmoopy, angsty, lusty detail. A lot. Which is why Spike/Buffy wasn't interesting to me outside the show once they did it on the show.

I missed a couple of episodes toward the end but I'm pretty sure John never figured it out. But god...I was just all squeee'ing when I saw that! Go J/C!

They just look so pretty together. And I like their dynamic from the transcripts (having only seen 6 eps total, and only 4 with Chiana). And whoo! She was his first! And she was probably more romantic than Faith.

I came in kind of determined to despise John/Aeryn, because everyone loves them so universally, it seems... but. er. I think I'll be okay with it. I don't mind them so far. It doesn't pain me to see them interact on the screen like Buffy/Riley and Wesley/Fred.

Actually, based on the first two episodes I saw, I was all "ooo, John/D'Argo". But then I saw Chiana and... girlcrush! She's so pretty.

I've actually wondered if Wes/Fred counts as a canon 'ship. Because they never got together. It's been feelings but no follow-through other than a couple of kisses. They haven't had a relationship.

*thinks of Gunn/Fred, shudders at 'pancake kiss' memories*

And I don't know. Aeryn just. Doesn't do it for me. I like kick-ass chicks. I like some brunettes, but Aeryn just... eh, doesn't do anything for me. Like with Angel, I don't get the appeal. Apparently there's this massive sexual thing they've got going on and... nope, don't see it.

In the first season, though, Aeryn is such a woobie. She's all, "I don't want to get left behind" and sad that she can never get home and worried that they'll all leave her. awwwwwwwwwww...

I don't think she's at ALL attractive though. No, no.

Hey, I friended you. I found your journal while I was meandering around here. Anyway, you have a lot of the same interests as I do, and I loved reading your stuff.

About Aeryn: I really liked her from the beginning, but she really does get better in the second season. I have the entire Farscape collection season 2-4, and could send you episodes, if you need them. :-)
