So, I'm rereading the series so that it'll all be fresh in my mind for OoP and thus far, I'm... not enjoying it as much.

The movie did a better (better in the sense of 'more sympathetic') job with Hagrid than the book, in my opinion. Because while in both cases he gives Dudley a pig's tail, at least in the movie, he gives it to him because of what Dudley's doing and not what his dad is doing. That just seems pointlessly cruel. I mean, we know that Dudley is a torment to Harry, but Hagrid doesn't. So, he just goes around punishing people because of what their parents did?

Eh, random rantiness. That part just came off really badly this time around. Actually, it's interesting how cruel the 'good' characters can be. Just thoughtlessly cruel.

Not really related Hagrid thought...

...one thing I always found intriguing was that Hagrid and Tom Riddle were on first name basis. (They address each other as "Tom" and "Rubeus" in the flashback, which the movie didn't keep, unfortunately, but I suppose they thought the audience wouldn't figure out who the heck "Rubeus" was supposed to be.) Compare this to Harry and Draco always addressing each other with their last names. (Ditto Snape and Sirius Black.) Which indicates a friendly aquaintance at the very least. Hm.....

I thought the same thing while rewatching Princess Bride. I Thought to Myself, "Why Do I Want the Protagonists to win again?" Because, basically you have a Spaniard bent on vengeance, a self-absorbed fake-Princess, a slow minded giant, and a murderous pirate as the main nice characters. Sure, the antagonists are slightly more evil, but the characters aren't very empathetic (besides Andre the giant's character). Crazy times.

Hee! Those are actually good points. It is odd, when you look closely at some characters, that they're the good guys.
