Rereading Harry: Hagrid
Jun. 13th, 2003 03:31 pmSo, I'm rereading the series so that it'll all be fresh in my mind for OoP and thus far, I'm... not enjoying it as much.
The movie did a better (better in the sense of 'more sympathetic') job with Hagrid than the book, in my opinion. Because while in both cases he gives Dudley a pig's tail, at least in the movie, he gives it to him because of what Dudley's doing and not what his dad is doing. That just seems pointlessly cruel. I mean, we know that Dudley is a torment to Harry, but Hagrid doesn't. So, he just goes around punishing people because of what their parents did?
Eh, random rantiness. That part just came off really badly this time around. Actually, it's interesting how cruel the 'good' characters can be. Just thoughtlessly cruel.
