Orlin's journey is totally foreshadowing for Daniel. Oh, the details differ, but he's a clear forerunner.
Also? Daniel totally cracked me up.
Dude (played by John de Lancie! Eee!): "Need I remind you, Doctor Jackson, of the dangers that we're trying to defend Earth against?"
Daniel: "Oh, could you? Go slow."
Snarky, snarky.
Orlin amused me vastly, even though he was a complete stalker.
Also, he was apparently able to reascend by himself, at the end. Interesting.

Presumably, she and all the other 'Ancients' made it on their own, and most of them still expect the younger races to sink or swim by their own efforts.
In a way, you could say that Orlin's journey prefigures Daniel's in reverse, a mirror image. But if you haven't seen the end of season 6 and beginning of season 7, yet, I don't want to spoil you.
I loved this episode also for O'Neill's response to finding out Carter has a boyfriend and can't play with him and Teal'c. Wondering what they should do with themselves, now that their plans to eat pizza with her and watch 'Star Wars' for the umpteenth time have fallen thru, Teal'c comes up with the perfect suggestion:
Teal'c: "I have read of an arena where humans do battle in jello."
O'Neill: "Call Daniel!"

Yes, he really said that
Date: 2004-06-17 10:17 pm (UTC)Teal'c has some great lines in many of the episodes, even when he's not setting up an outrageous straight line for O'Neill (O'Neill: "You read the Bible, Teal'c?" Teal'c: "Of course. It is an important part of your Western culture. Have you not read the Bible, O'Neill?" O'Neill: "I'm...listening to it on tape. Don't tell me how it comes out."), but that's one of my all-time favorites (especially coming right on top of the claim that the alien Teal'c's favorite movie is "Star Wars," which he re-watches at every opportunity).

Date: 2004-06-18 08:08 pm (UTC)I knew that I knew him! I knew it! (And I liked that film, too. It's a bit of fluff and it knows it.)

Spoil me! I actually know quite a bit (I haven't let not having seen most of the series keep me from reading most of the fic, though not knowing what goes where creates some interesting assumptions). I knew that Daniel goes up, tries to be non-interfering, sees Abydos in trouble, says 'screw this shit', and then ends up going human again. I'm uncertain if this is Oma kicking him out or a choice thing (but even if it is Oma kicking him out, it's still a choice thing, I suppose, as he choose to try to help Abydos).

That was amusing. I was also amused by Teal'c not actually specifying female humans. And it is way cute how very 'one of the boys' they were with her in that scene -- her having a date is cutting into their play time, but they get it.
