butterfly: (Who We Are - Daniel (by destina))

Orlin's journey is totally foreshadowing for Daniel. Oh, the details differ, but he's a clear forerunner.

Also? Daniel totally cracked me up.

Dude (played by John de Lancie! Eee!): "Need I remind you, Doctor Jackson, of the dangers that we're trying to defend Earth against?"
Daniel: "Oh, could you? Go slow."

Snarky, snarky.

Orlin amused me vastly, even though he was a complete stalker.

Also, he was apparently able to reascend by himself, at the end. Interesting.

The couple of times I've seen this episode (okay, so I kept that one on tape to re-watch a half-dozen times, 'cause, after all, Carter doesn't get that much action, and I have a sneaking fondness for the actor who played Orlin, as well as Young Indiana Jones and SMG's boyfriend in the under-rated feel-good film "Simply Irresistible") I wasn't completely sure that Orlin didn't have a bit of help from his former colleagues (the ones who'd originally exiled him to stay on that planet) there at the end.

But still, it MUST be possible for people to ascend on their own, in this cosmology, if Oma de Sala is considered such a renegade for assisting others in the process. Presumably, she and all the other 'Ancients' made it on their own, and most of them still expect the younger races to sink or swim by their own efforts.

In a way, you could say that Orlin's journey prefigures Daniel's in reverse, a mirror image. But if you haven't seen the end of season 6 and beginning of season 7, yet, I don't want to spoil you.

I loved this episode also for O'Neill's response to finding out Carter has a boyfriend and can't play with him and Teal'c. Wondering what they should do with themselves, now that their plans to eat pizza with her and watch 'Star Wars' for the umpteenth time have fallen thru, Teal'c comes up with the perfect suggestion:

Teal'c: "I have read of an arena where humans do battle in jello."
O'Neill: "Call Daniel!"

God, I love that scene. Daniel's often sarcastic but seldom outright rude, and that guy derserved it SO MUCH. I was cheering.

I love and adore snarky Daniel. Seeing him get pissy over someone he considers his inferior always makes me chortle with glee.
