butterfly: (Not Goodbye -- John Crichton)

Pilot made me cry. When he spoke of longing to see the stars. When he spoke of deserving death.

Apart from that... this episode was a little too obvious for me. A little too neat in its connections, like when Velorak using the same words that John would in the future, and a bit too heavy-handed, as when Aeryn points out that they used the same words.

I mean, I actually did understand the connection without her pointing it out. No, really. I got it. There was no need to smack me upside the head with it. Aeryn is special. I know. Sheesh. She's wonderful and amazing in her potential and possibility. She's a Saul to Paul, I understand already, stop beating me over the head with it.

If ever there was an anvil on this show, it's that Aeryn Can Be More.

But Aeryn can be more!!, *grins* and hide. Yes that was rather heavy handed done. But we got also, necessarily I think, reminded that once were Aeryn a good little peacekeeper. That executed innocent creature without blinking. That she betrayed perhaps the first person, that she had deeper feeling for, just because she wanted to fly. Aeryn needed to become more, because the starting point for her is not very flattering.

But I knew that!

I suppose that people who like Aeryn possibly did need the reminder. I guess I'm in Chiana's boat -- did people think, before this episode, that Aeryn was the One Good Peacekeeper? That she was somehow able to stay away from doing all the horrible, horrible dren that we are told the Peacekeepers do?

Yes I am afraid, that it was necessary, for me to see that, for me to emotionally know what that it meant for Aeryn, that she has been a peacekeeper. And you and Chiana is quiet right that it should not have come as surprise for anyone. I think that something like when we (the viewers)and Buffy first got told, that from Angel that he created Dru driving her insane from torture, and then much later show in did they show. It did hit me harder, when I saw the innocent girl, that were Dru before she got turned, and then to see the broken creature in the hands of Angel. Or take Spike’s little tale to Dawn, about the little Girl hiding in the basement. The fan reaction would be much stronger if it got played it instead of told.

Ah. Yeah, I always saw the blood and violence of Spike, too. No matter how warm and fluffy he could he, I always remembered him waving a broken bottle in Willow's face. I remember the blood on Xander's. I've always assumed the worst with Angel as well, even after I came to like him. The monster with the face of an angel.

It's funny, because my mom tells me sometimes that I see too much beauty, so much that she doesn't, because I also so easily see the wrong and see the ugliness. I never forget the thorn, even while I'm praising the glory of the rose.
