butterfly: (The Cost -- Anakin)

My Stargate AU is stalling.

Because Star Wars is distracting me with the shiny. Anakin's just... a very interesting guy. I mean... I like him and he fucks up so much and I still like him. He's such a passionate, conflicted person. And he and Padme really do bring out the worst in each other, in a horrifyingly fascinating way that I really want to eventually explore. So, I'm writing a... thing that has something to do with that, but more do with the equally complicated Anakin/Obi-Wan thing. I'll let you all know how it goes.

The foul, dank air of the cave was doing little to improve Anakin’s mood, which had been going steadily downhill as the day progressed.

Or failed to progress, as the case seemed to be.

The reasons why the Council, in all its wisdom, had believed that the rebels of Hargoeth would be willing to listen to reason were completely escaping Anakin. They were a filthy, miserable faction, one that would spell doom for their entire people.

Anakin would see to that.

They would see how foolish they’d been, after the Separatists wiped them out. They’d want the help of the Jedi then, when their children were cut down by unfeeling battle droids. When the blood of their people ran silver in the streets, they’d scream out for aid.

They would know, in those last moments, the cold truth that their own people were to blame for the Republic’s withdrawal.

And whatever they’d done to Obi-Wan, whatever hurt they’d caused him, Anakin would personally see to it that they would pay the appropriate price.

He knew that if Obi-Wan were here, he would chide Anakin for his uncharitable thoughts.

If Obi-Wan were here…

But he was here, somewhere. And Anakin would find him.

Anakin would not fail this time.

That would be why I filed him and Connor under the category of "messed up boys" when analyzing archetypes I tend to go for in fandoms.*g*

Anyway, from a mere egoistic pov, I am of course delighted to find you being distracted by the shiny, as I want more SW fic from you. This is a good and intense beginning.

Such a good point.

It's this whole complicated thing in my head, though. And the prologue (the bit up there is the beginning of that) is something that could stand alone as an Anakin and Obi-Wan character piece, but the longer story features this whole... time-travel element that sends Anakin and Obi-Wan twenty-five years into the future (I think that I've got the math right, at least -- it's a year before RotS, then there are twenty-three years between RotS and RotJ (at least, I've seen people writing 'twenty-three years as Anakin, twenty-three as Vader), and then it would take place a year after RotJ). Which means that I need to rewatch Return of the Jedi so that I can get Luke right.

I'm uncertain as to whether or not I want to bother trying to read any of the EU books or if I should just go with what I think might have happened post-RotJ. I'll probably do the second thing.

Oh, forget the EU. At least where the Imperial and post-Imperial era is concerned. Half of it is contradicted by now through the Republic trilogy anyway. And it's extremely rare to find a novel that bothers with exploring the family relationships instead of the romances. Some of the Republic era stuff is good, though not better than good fanfic.

Also: what a great premise! I've seen time-travel in the other direction - i.e. Imperial Trilogy characters travel in the past - but nothing like your idea, and I'd so love to read it!

Yeah, I'm fine with that. Honestly, I like writing fanfic much better when I have an actor's portrayal to work off. I shudder at the idea of trying to write characters that I would only know through the EU books.

Well, I don't want to mess up the timeline of the series (it's not even time-travel, as such, more of... a doubling in the Force). I want Anakin and Obi-Wan to see their future without there being any risk of that future being changed. And I want to be able to say that there's no proof that my story is AU. Because I love the canon so much.

I really enjoy your idea for the story. I read the first chapters and think this looks VERY promising.
I'm curious: Will Anakin move forward in time as well and meet Luke and Leia? (If yes, I'm also curious how R2D2 will react or what Anakin will say if he sees 3PO.)

Thanks, glad that you like it so far!

And I don't think that I'll be spoiling too much by saying that Anakin will be along.
