So, over Christmas, I caused some doubts in my brother's mind regarding homosexuality. He brought up Leviticus, said that there had to be a reason that it was considered wrong. And I agreed with him (this tends to throw people a little). I said that, yes, there was absolutely a practical reason not to have men sleeping with men or women with women. Population growth. When you want your population to grow as quickly as possible, you want every member of society producing children.

And thus, my reasoning goes, if the reason for disallowing gay sex is the same type of practical reason as the reason for disallowing pork, then it stands to reason that if that practical reason no longer applies, it doesn't make sense to continue to consider homosexuality a sin.

I only caused one or two small doubts, but more than I ever did arguing on grounds of love and morality.

So what's the practical reason for outlawing shrimp?

It looks creepy.

Okay, maybe that's just my personal reason.

It goes bad really quickly after it's removed from water? Lots of people still get food poisoning from shellfish today, even with newfangled things like health codes and refridgeration.

Okay, that's an actual good, practical reason. Thank you. I don't actually eat seafood pretty much at all, so I'm no help on information about it.

:hugs: That sounds like a difficult situation to handle--I'm glad it sounds like there was a glimmering of understanding there.

It is pretty hard sometimes. I love my brother but I really don't understand how he got to where he is. He's only a little over a year older than me, and in some ways, we are so different.

Did your cousin get his hat back?

Hope you're having a good week in the empty house.

Did I mention I don't have to work the 2nd?

He hasn't gotten his hat back yet. I'm going to be going over to my mom's Thursday night and I'll be taking it (I'm staying the night and driving her to the airport in the morning so that we have a proper chance to say good-bye).

When are you getting back, exactly?

Also, where do the pushpins live?

Also, the cats are being fed and watered and are not dead as of yet.

Also, my cousin got me the most adorable retro wind-up clock in existence.

Hope you're enjoying seeing your folks.

I'll be back Thursday afternoon/evening.

I think I need to buy more pushpins.

Yay for live cats!

I'm having a good time. Hope you are, too. Give everyone hugs for me!

Good for you.

I believe in one of the OT books it also says that you're not supposed to approach the altar of the Lord if you have defective eyesight or are 'wounded in the stones'.

Thank you.

Also, I find the phrase 'wounded in the stones' to be marvelous amusing.

I never understood the problem with homosexuality. Surely, it's best for people to be with who they really want to be with, both for them and the other involved, rather than to force themselves in any way *scratches head in puzzlement*

All hail the master of the confusing prose. I meant, of course, the negative perception of homosexuality *rolls eyes at self*

Yeah, that's how I feel, too. My brother seems to think that it's better for someone who is gay to 'fix themselves'. Repression and denial are the way to happiness, apparently.

I love my brother, but he really exhausts me sometimes.
