Personal: Adjusting to the Audience
Dec. 27th, 2005 05:53 amSo, over Christmas, I caused some doubts in my brother's mind regarding homosexuality. He brought up Leviticus, said that there had to be a reason that it was considered wrong. And I agreed with him (this tends to throw people a little). I said that, yes, there was absolutely a practical reason not to have men sleeping with men or women with women. Population growth. When you want your population to grow as quickly as possible, you want every member of society producing children.
And thus, my reasoning goes, if the reason for disallowing gay sex is the same type of practical reason as the reason for disallowing pork, then it stands to reason that if that practical reason no longer applies, it doesn't make sense to continue to consider homosexuality a sin.
I only caused one or two small doubts, but more than I ever did arguing on grounds of love and morality.
