butterfly: (Not like the others -- Dawn (by saava))

So, I've been watching Red Dwarf (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rathanylakan). I'm currently checking out the bonus disk of Series III. And there are excerpts of the actor who plays Rimmer (Chris Barrie) doing an audiobook version. And... dude, he is so good! He captures the accents and emotions of the other characters wonderfully, has a great general 'narration' voice and just has a nice voice, period. Pretty and expressive and... yeah.

May be a little bit in love.

I adore Chris Barrie. He's so good as Rimmer, and he's a really sweet guy too. His voice work is uncanny - he used to do impersonation work on Spitting Image (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086807/) (which lead to RD actually) and his voices (like Ronald Reagan) were amazing. He does a great Tony Blair too.

He really is wonderful at impersonations. And I've been very impressed with Red Dwarf as a whole so far.

Makes me want to get more RD DVDs (we have the first two series).

And definitely, rewatch Tomb Raider - I think he was a great choice for Lara's butler.

Actually him being in those movies led to me causing Chris and a room of people to go into hysterics one time because he was doing pictures with guests at an SFX con, and he was asking names, so when I said mine, he went, "As in Croft?" with this amazed look on his face before he started laughing with everyone else. He remembered me the rest of the day.

I actually remember being particularly amused by the butler, which cracks me up, because I did not remember him as the same actor when I saw my first episode of RD.

Aw... that is such a great memory. Very, very cool.

I have such a crush on Chris Barrie, which dates to a stunned moment of revelation during a Red Dwarf marathon round about when he was delivering this season 2 line: "I could never invent a sandwich like this, Lister. You see, all the ingredients are wrong. The fried eggs, wrong; the chutney, wrong; the chili sauce, all wrong. But put them together and somehow it works. It becomes right. It's you - this sandwich, Lister, is you. "

So did I. Glad that I am not the only one to nurse a crush on the smeg head.

I have to admit, the crush did fade a bit when I saw him in Tomb Raider.

God, that was a brilliant line, wonderfully delivered. I could just hear him saying it from reading the words. Fantastic.

Chris Barrie is one of the most talented comedy actors around. Ah, you should see The Brittas Empire.

Ooh, I haven't seen Red Dwarf in about two years or so. God, I miss it.
