butterfly: (Mother and Son -- Sarah Connor Chronicle)

Because I just realized that it's been just about a month since I talked about anything else.

In the category of 'personal life': I had my birthday three-ish weeks ago, am having some emotional difficulties that are making school complicated and, right now, it's snowing a lot.

If you watched my recent trailer, you might have guessed this, but I finally got around to watching series two of Secret Diary of a Call Girl: I adored it. They introduced Bambi, who got to have character growth and be a real friend to Hannah (I'm so glad that she has a good female friend -- not that I don't adore Ben). It was interesting to watch and peg the 'hiding the pregnancy' scenes with Hannah/Belle. Billie did a fabulous job, as always, and had crackerjack chemistry with Alex and still with Ben and just all-around. I don't think that I've yet seen her have a failure of chemistry with anyone that she's been partnered with.

I like the way the Alex story ended -- with him actually understanding that this is who Hannah is. She can't just turn off Belle and be with him. "It's like a light went out in you," he says. But he can't be the guy for her because, while he can understand that's who she is, it's not who he is. I wanted to hug Hannah like, a milllion times throughout the whole relationship.

I started watching S3 of Dexter (I know!) and I've now seen the first two episodes: I have to say, I'm finding Dexter and Miguel's interactions to be very slashy. I know that he's... clinging a bit because he thinks that Dexter understands his grief and now they're likely to have bonding over their shared murder secret, but... slashy.

I love Rita and her reactions to finding out that she's pregnant. She's such a great character. I really love that Deb currently has a storyline that has nothing to do with romance (unless we find out that Yuki (the Internal Affairs lady) is very like Deb's mom and Deb and Yuki start dating, which may very well happen, considering the S1: brother substitute is dated and S2: dad substitute is dated). I really like Yuki so far.

I'm caught up with The Sarah Connor Chronicles: I really adore this show. I just... really love everything about it and in a sort of uncomplicated way. Sarah kicks ass. My favorite 'relationship' remains the Sarah & John bond, which I'm enjoying watching change and develop (one of the things that makes me sad about the fandom is that, in my few checks through, it seems dominated by Cameron-related 'shipping, which I don't have any interest in).

I've been getting more and more interested in Jesse as time has gone by and the reveal that Riley, too, is from the future made me much more interested in her. I love that Ellison is alive and isn't actually working with the Connors but is still a good guy. It's understandable why he would pick Weaver over Sarah and I like that. It's a complicated moral universe and I really appreciate that.

I watched the S1 run of Merlin (with, in case there is anyone who doesn't know, Anthony Head (Giles!) as Uther Pendragon): Which has just been a pile of giddy squee. There's the slashy boyish goodness of Merlin and Arther. There's the femslashy goodness of Morgana/Gwen. There's the vaguely emotional incesty Morgana/Uther relationship.

There is was Nimue, who was utterly gorgeous and awesome (*holds out hope that she isn't really dead*).

There's the whole 'keep the magic secret' thing, which, as others have pointed out, makes Merlin seem even more (closeted) gay than he would otherwise. There's the fact that People (including dragons) Have Agendas -- twice Gaius basically picked Merlin's life over Uther's, which is fascinating.

Anyway, lots of fun, very glad that it's coming back.

I also need to start watching S2 of The Sarah Jane Adventures. I'm going to try to do that before school starts up again.

I recently caught up on SDOACG II as well. I adore Callum Blue and thought he and Billie were fabulous together. I loved how this season had more character development and story. I also loved Bambi and found her friendship with Belle very endearing. Poor Ben.

TSCC and Dexter had such excellent shows. I really hope Fox doesn't bail on TSCC, because it is intelligent, emotionally provoking and is true to the characters created in the movie.

Everyone on my flist raves about Merlin, so I definitely plan to give it a whirl.

Yes, I want to give Ben a big hug, because he's so in love with Belle and she's... not in love with him. Never was, from what she said about Alex.

I'm definitely with you on that. It's such a good, thoughtful show.

It's not the deepest show in the world, but it's pretty adorable.

There's not a lot of Dexter fic in general. :(

I've seen at least one dexter/miguel posted on [livejournal.com profile] dexter_fanfic, but I haven't read, so I can't speak for the quality.

...damn, now I want to read some.

Both true and sad, yes.

Thanks for the pointer. I'll go check and see.

Dex + Miguel = OTP. Omigod, O. T. P. Possibly even more so than Dex/Doakes.

Man, it is absolutely retarded how much I love that show.

This show is completely awesome.

Do you happen to know if there's some Dex/Miguel fic wandering around online?

There are a few (two) fics up at [livejournal.com profile] dexter_fanfic, and they're all right, I guess. The thing about this fandom is that it's so small, it's IMPOSSIBLE to find good fanfic. I've found a couple of pieces I like (plus my own, heehee), butnobody's really been able to pull off a slashy AU, really. Not that I've seen.

Also, the Dex/Miguel stuff is spoilery if you've only seen up to 3x02.

The smallness of Dexter fandom often makes me sad. It's such a good show.

No kidding, man. It's totally one of the best.

I still intend to be the first person ever to write a Dexter / Doctor Who crossover fic. Because I'm crazy like that. :)

You know how I feel about SDoaCG generally (and if you read my posts, specific), but basically I completely agree: Especially with this: I like the way the Alex story ended -- with him actually understanding that this is who Hannah is. Yuppers. That's exactly how I felt about that arc.

I've only watched the 1st ep of Dexter this season, but I have them all waiting for me to watch!

Finally, Terminator, eh, I'm one of those for Cameron-shipping, but I adore Summer Glau, so I'm more inclined to her. I think my favorite relationship to watch unfold is Cameron and Sarah's, but not in a shippy way. I ship Cameron with John (and sometimes Derek), they're definitely not OTP material for me.

As for the show itself, I just adore it so much.

I've watched through episode six now and it's really, really good this season. I've been on the edge of my seat a lot.

I actually really do adore Summer, but I have absolutely no interest in Cameron-shipping and I'm not entirely sure why. It seems to be my non-shipping fandom.

It's such a great show.

I fear change! I know this one very specific spoiler about the S2 and I'm unsure how I will possibly handle it.

Ah, I thought that would be it. And while I'd rather it hadn't happened, I do think it was managed rather well. She wasn't forgotten or anything like that.

The thing that gets me about Nimueh is that she's played by the same woman who was the lead in last year's Bionic Woman, who I didn't think was very good. In Merlin, though, I quite like her. I'm not sure if it's that she's acting better, or that she doesn't have to try to manage an American accent, or that it's a totally different type of show or what, but she did quite well, whichever.

I am also thoroughly enjoying The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I just wish other people enjoyed it as much as we do so it would get better ratings.

Could be any of those factors. It's always hard to say. Some people surprise you.

Yeah. It's such a smart, well-written show. It's frustrating that it doesn't do better in ratings.

I mainlined this last week while in a cottage in Wales and I loved it. I probably wouldn't have watched week to week, but I think I definitely will do so for Season 2. I loved this. I love that John Hurt is voicing the dragon of slash. Slash!dragon? You're destined for each other et al. Priceless. LOL.
