I do not believe that a woman ever deserves to be called a 'bitch', 'slut', 'whore', 'skank' or whatever other derogatory term may become popular in the future. Gender-based hate language is still hate language.

Of less importance, it looks like my time watching Doctor Who now comes with an expiration date: Steven Moffat will be taking over the show in 2010. Anyone who's read my journal for a significant length of time can guess at my feelings about that. This news makes me sincerely hope that Dollhouse will be awesome (that Joss will do good on what he's always done good on and improve on the things he sucked at) and remain uncanceled.

edit: spoilers for DW Series 4 in comments.

There have been two arguments in this whole thing that have really made me want to cry:

1) boys will be boys/that's just how men are, get used to it
2) those women deserved being called bitches

I only saw this second-hand, already filtered through all my sane friends. But even so, it made me irrationally, incredibly angry, and if I had the energy, I'd go back to Supernatural fandom just to up the numbers of the intelligent and insightful fans.

Many people love Moffat. I'm not one of them, but I suspect his show will still appeal to many people. I just know that I strongly dislike the way he writes the Doctor, so I'll want to give his version of the show a pass.

I suspect there will be quite a bit of Moffat related drama. I plan to stay well away from it. I've already decided what I plan to do, so I won't need to get involved.

But I'm sad that I'm now hoping for David to leave with RTD.

Yes. Just yes.

I… I feel like my show has been canceled. I can’t see Steven Moffat giving me a fifth season of You Are Not Alone (yes, I’m shamelessly stealing your terminology)—much less a fifth season of I Create Myself, which is the show I fell in love with in the first place. (In fact, I’m not sure I’d want him to. I don’t trust him anywhere near Rose’s character arc.)

Moffat: making Kripke look almost enlightened since at least 2000.

Signed, just rewatched Coupling. Winced.

I haven't watched any New Who yet, but I am still kind of bummed by this.

But all women are obsessed with marriage! It's a fact! Moffat said it, which means that it must be true. All women are incredibly needy and all white, middle-class men are horribly discriminated against by society!

Do you mine if I ask what you don't like about Steven Moffat, if you haven't already said so in the comments? I've only seen Jack's intro eps and Blink and I couldn't tell any difference between them and the rest of the series, so I'm curious. But then, I never could tell any difference between Guza and the scabs in GH -- if fandom hadn't exploded over the whole thing I never would have realized there was a switch. So maybe I just don't pay attention very well? :D

I dislike the way that he talks about women (he says that women are "needy" and "always grasping for marriage") and he's also expressed the opinion that continuity is not necessary and that the Doctor shouldn't ever cry. These are all fairly important subjects about which I firmly disagree with him.

I'm a bit amused by that. My feelings for Moffat are certainly no secret.

Ah, I really wish that Paul Cornell had wanted (or been offered) the position. I think I would have liked his story.

I am glad that I have time to adjust. And we have the second half of S4 plus 4 specials yet to come. And hopefully RTD will have managed to have fully told the story that he wanted to tell. I got into this fandom because of the beauty of his story -- in the end, that's what captured me. If he gives that a satisfactory ending (as he did with QaF), then I'll be content.

Well, let's say that someone has made you a salad. And you really like it, except for the few cucumber slices here and there. In a big salad with many ingredients, a little bit of something you aren't fond of isn't so bad and you can maybe pick it out anyway. However, if someone then says they've made a cucumber salad, you probably will just let them know that you aren't a big fan of cucumbers and won't be eating that salad.

I know Moffat's writing style and I know what he says in interviews. Because of that, I can be pretty certain that I will not be a fan of what the show will change to under his direction. So, instead, I will look for what I got out of this show in other shows.

I would have loved Paul Cornell as show runner! He used the companions effectively (and not interchangeably) in his episodes, his Doctor had depth and was explored in interesting ways, and yet he managed to stayed emotionally resonant with the episodes around him, too.
