Torchwood: Exit Wounds

Ow. My heart got just a bit ripped out there.
I started crying when Owen demanded to be given one good reason why he shouldn't scream his way into the grave and Tosh said, "Because you're breaking my heart," and then I continued weeping on and off until the ending.
I wish that Tosh and Owen hadn't died, but, oh, those were really good deaths. Earned, powerful deaths.
Fantastically, painfully done. Two thumbs up to Chris Chibnall, who has been absolutely on the ball with all of his episodes this series.
All of the characters were amazing this episode -- our mains and all the secondaries as well. Gwen was so good, strong but with her uncertainties and still needing the people who love her to give her support.
Jack has been forced to have so much practice with forgiveness. And if Jack had ever been questioning just why the Doctor found losing the Master so painful, this episode would have shown him exactly why.
Ianto had the least to do, but I felt his presence acutely in all of his scenes.
Tosh and Owen broke my hearts, but I've said that already. And we got canon on the 'doctor' Sato in Doctor Who -- she was covering for Owen! Perfect and lovely and... oh, Tosh.
I love this show and these people so much.

Date: 2008-04-05 02:03 am (UTC)I did too. Man I can't really be coherent right now. This is exactly what I want from this show. And if Owen and Tosh had to die, I'd want it like that: Tosh because she's brave and strong and Owen being the git he often is until someone he loves pulls him out of his seflishness for just one minute.
Though I'm wary about replacements. I kinda hope that Jack avoids it for awhile. And I really can't wait to see why he's on Doctor Who - I was so happy that he didn't run away like I fear he would have.

Indeed. It was really so perfect for both of them. Tosh, in particular, was so incredible. Just... wow. That was the two of them being the absolute best possible person that they could be and it was amazing.
I'm also really looking forward to seeing how Jack ends up on DW. I'm glad that he's there providing support for Gwen and Ianto.
*hugs them*

Date: 2008-04-05 02:23 am (UTC)I can't believe this is the same show that often frustrated me in the first half of series one because I mostly saw wasted potential. I hope the next series is even better.

I raged against the deaths when I heard spoilers, but god they were perfect. It was just complete enough for me not to feel cheated, but to feel the profound darkness Torchwood is about.

I felt so horrible for him. He comes back after thousands(I think it was) years of being underground attempting to atone for a guilt he shouldn't suffer and then Gray still wouldn't forgive him and he had to come to seeing Tosh bleeding to death and telling him Owen - Owen who he broke so many rule to save - died. It's no wonder he was clenching Ianto and Gwen at the end.
I really hope this carries over in Doctor Who. I think it will, they carried over his suicidal urges and dealt with them perfectly in Utopia and I bought his choice to go back to his team and start something in The Last of the Time Lords/Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Exactly. TW is a dark place to live in and they were really willing to go there this series -- not just with Tosh and Owen but, as you mention, with the horror of what happens to Jack. He needs his Ianto and Gwen right now, very much.

I think so, too. They've been quite good with Jack's character continuity between the two shows.

Date: 2008-04-05 03:14 am (UTC)There was such a quiet desperation between the three of them. I like that it was just the three of them at the end. We had resolution with Jack and John and Rhys supported Gwen - but it fit that it was the three of them at the end.

There is so many places they can go with this. We have baggage from Torchwood that needs to be dealt with, and we need some resolution with Rose, Jack and the bad wolf stuff and I can imagine the many ways that Jack could develop with the Doctor, even more so since the Grey thing was clearly a parallel to the Master. And omg he'd be great with Donna, I'm sure of it.

Date: 2008-04-05 09:15 pm (UTC)It really did. It needed just to be them at the very end, grieving for the ones they'd lost. And that ending was so beautifully-acted, as well. Their pain was so visible and aching.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing what will happen.

Date: 2008-04-05 04:20 am (UTC)Angry because Tosh was underused throughout the course of both series, and angry because Owen had become this big ball of awesomesauce this series and had become one of my favorite characters.
And they're gone? Ouch. And it sucks. And... I'm gonna go pout for a while.

Date: 2008-04-05 09:16 pm (UTC)If they really are completely gone, I'm going to miss them so much (and I'm pretty sure that they are -- they both got closure). I really loved both the characters dearly.

Date: 2008-04-05 10:35 am (UTC)It was written really well and acted beautifully and made me cry a lot, I've not cried like that since "Doomsday"
I still want my magic Tosh/Owen are back fix but that's just because the show made me love them so much.
And I so need a OT3 icon for Jack/Ianto/Gwen from this ep, if anyone sees one send it my way

I know just how you feel. There were two absolutely gorgeous possible shots of the three of them.

Date: 2008-04-07 11:04 am (UTC)What got to me even more than the death scenes was the very last bit with Jack practically clinging to Gwen and Ianto. I think my heart's broken more times for Jack more than any other fictional character.
Yes. Poor Jack really needs his comfort people right now. I'm so glad that he has Gwen and Ianto to cling to -- they would fight so fiercely for him and it's so good that he has that.

Date: 2008-04-07 11:21 am (UTC)I wonder if Jack will treat Gwen and Ianto as his equals now? It would be lovely to see them running Torchwood together, more as a unit and less of the boss-employee relationship. The three of them will be bonded more than ever through the deaths of two of their teammates, so it would make sense.
