Reality

I know the difference between reality and fiction. And that allows me to completely emerge myself in fiction, allowing myself to forget reality.

I know that Justin and Lance aren't having sex.

When I'm writing, they are having sex, in my head. Only in my head. But to write something, I have to believe in it fully for as long as I'm writing.

In part, that's probably why I'm having a hard time writing Smallville. It has too many inconsistencies, like the weather. I had the same problem with Gilmore Girls, actually.

Sunnydale may not be a real world, but it's a truthful one, to steal a phrase from the Moulin Rouge commentary. It feels like Joss is just showing us characters in a real, 3-D world.

Smallville feels contrived in a way that Buffy never has to me. A way that has nothing to do with plots and everything to do with making me see every character's humanity. Can you imagine Smallville pulling a Jonathon on us?

Oh yes, word.

The Buffy characters are so real because they're *flawed* and in them, we see parts of ourselves. They fuck up, they pick themselves up, and we still love them.

When did you finally get to sleep last night?

I came home on the intentions of taking a nap, but find myself untired again.

I got to sleep 1-ish. Not too bad. But I was so drained.

I still have no clue what Smallville was about. It can't get past the Buffy.

I just sat online and waited for the fandom blows to start coming. Because I cannot seem to stop reading stuff (from *both* sides) that pisses me off and upsets me.

Maybe I'll watch Seeing Red again, because god, that was a good episode. And maybe it won't be so bad the second time.

It's as bad the second time. Or was for me. I'm not even dealing with Tara, I'm in major Willow-power-sized denial there. I'm still coping with the bathroom scene.

I love both shows. Buffy is better at the metaphor (though it was kinda weak this season) and making flawed characters you care about. Smallville has that intensity with Lex that I don't think BtVS has had since Faith or something. But it doesn't have as many point-of-view characters, I don' t think. We don't know what Lana or Chloe feel in the way that we knew what Xander or Willow or Giles felt. We've mostly just got Clark and Lex for that.

I still haven't gotten around to watching it again. I mean to, but the pain stops me. That or my sister.

Yeah, you must have it bad. I remember how much reading Xander-hate posts hurt. Of course, that might be because the latest happened yesterday.

Right.

Issues.

Hee. I made a Clem icon that says "issues". I just have to decide if I like it well enough to get rid of any of my others. I've been on an icon frenzy.

And it's not the Spike-hate that really gets me. I understand where the hate is coming from. I'm beyond mad at Spike for that, myself. It's the way some people are almost gleeful that it happened just so they can say "ha ha ha, you were wrong". And the whole "you're sick if you still think he can be redeemed" thing.

As an added bonus, I'm also annoyed with all the people who are saying that it was partially Buffy's fault. Because... no.

Ah. I see.

The thing for me is that he's a murderer. He's been a murderer. Why is this the deal-breaker for people? Hello, unrepentent killer. If he had the possibility for redeemption before(which you and I disagree on), then he still has it now.

Oh, and word. Some person said that she was a 'tease' in that scene. What the fuck is that person watching?

It also pisses me off that people are saying that the show is now being anti-feminist and misogynistic. I've read posts saying that was the worst episode ever. And I'm thinking, were these people watching the same thing I was?

...I'm just going to keep replying, so I can show off all my prettypretty new icons.

Hee! Why not?

And yeah, I didn't see any indication that the show was on Spike or Warren's side.
