Stargate SG-1: 10x13 -- The Road Not Taken

This episode holds the (possibly unique) distinction of being three favorite episodes in one -- it's now my favorite Alternate Universe episode, my favorite Sam episode, and my favorite episode where there's no Daniel.

The Road Not Taken kicked serious ass for me. I adored it.

First off, how great was Sam in this episode? AT did an amazing job carrying the episode. She was brave, curious, compassionate, and thoughtful. I loved Sam's progress through the episode, working out just why it was all making her uncomfortable. Plus, she totally pulled off that gorgeous dress at the party and the off-duty clothes she was wearing actually looked really good on her (for a change! Perhaps Major Carter has better taste in clothes than our Sam does).

The alternate versions of everyone were very interesting -- Lorne was the hottest SG-1 commander ever (*cough* apologies to Jack, Cameron, and Sam but... yeah.). And depressed Cameron was really done very well by BB -- I was quite impressed. And Rodney! Oh, I have quite the little crush on that universe's Rodney. With his glasses, the buying and selling of companies, hoping that he gets along better with his sister in the other reality, his eyes when he learned that his Sam was dead, and the way his face fell every time he figured out that Sam was just buttering him up by complimenting his other self -- with all that, he was possibly the cutest person in the multiverse. And I liked his clothes, too.

Plus, as Sam/Rodney is my secret OTP, I was thrilled that they'd been married in that reality (Jack/Daniel is my regular SG-1 OTP, Daniel/Cameron is my first alternate SG-1 OTP, Daniel/Vala is my het OTP (used to be Daniel/Sha're, but I've slowly moved on) and John/Rodney is my regular SGA OTP). I may have to actually get myself a Sam/Rodney icon. Hmm.

I love that SG-1 is actually going ahead and making coherent, if a touch heavy-handed, political commentary this season. No security without freedom, indeed.

And the vision of Our SG-1 talking to an empty room, trying to keep the Sam they thought was there company, is quite possibly the sweetest thing ever. I'm really curious about all the thing they said -- especially Teal'c, who wanted to get out of the room so quickly. And Vala! With the hugging. I loved that moment so much. Vala really is such a sweetheart.

Oh man, I'm really anxious to see this one now. Except I'm a little behind on SG-1 and I have to watch them in order, so I can't. But it really sounds wonderful. And Sam/Rodney is my (not so) secret OTP too!

They're so snarky and great with each other. I really do think that AT has more chemistry with DH than any other guy she's shared the screen with.

AU Rodney was so incredibly cute! I agree with you that Sam saw it, too. He surprised her a little, which is neat!
