I, like many Buffy fans, have seen the cover for the second issue of what is apparently going to be 'season eight' of Buffy. Except, you know, in comics. Without Sarah Michelle Geller. When it comes to television and movies, the actors really are such an important part of the characters for me. So, while I might buy the comic on the strength of the cover, it probably won't become 'canon' for me, no matter what, because my canons don't generally cross media lines. Without Sarah and Nick and Aly and Anthony (etc.), it isn't really Buffy to me (ex. Serenity wouldn't have made it into my canon for Firefly if they'd changed the actors; Buffy the original movie is not in my canon for Buffy).

But I might find it an interesting possibility for how things turned out.

I think I'm going to wait for inevitable collected edition; that way, all the alternate covers (if any) will get included, plus any last-minute commentary that usually makes the book worth the cost.

Fray was an interesting take on a future Slayer, and they made her weapon into TV show canon (the axe used in the last ep.)

That sounds like a really good idea. I may try doing that, too, if I can manage the patience.

I'm still on the fence. I'm not a big comic book reader, and NZ is a bit out of the way so I don't even know if/when/how they'll released them here. Mostly, though, I felt like the end of s7 was a good ending place. To tack more stuff onto it in the guise of canon seems pretty contrived.

I really do agree with you on that -- season seven ended by destroying the 'one girl' burden that Buffy had railed against since the first season and anything else will feel like a later epilogue and not part of the original story.

I'll buy anything Joss does, so I'm looking forward to this. But I agree on the canon issue, and I rather suspect that Joss does too. We know he's pro-fanfic, and I doubt he'd feel that his virtual season eight should diminish the work of his fans.

True and a very good point. Joss is well-aware of the value of his fan base, and of their dedication and talent.

Well, I'm a little curious. I hated the last two seasons of Buffy with a passion, with the exception of a handful of episodes, but then, I've always unashamedly been an Angel first and foremost, I was much more interested in the grown-ups.

Maybe this will bring some closure to the craptacular ending.

Then again, they did kill my favourite character in Buffy, so unless it features strongly Andrew or Giles, my care factor is zeroish.

Though I grew to really adore Angel in the last couple of years, it never really replaced Buffy as my favorite -- coming of age stories hold a lot of power for me, and Buffy's message of hope and love overcoming all obstacles is also dear to me.

Of course, I also really love the last two seasons of Buffy (particularly S6, which is probably the season closest to my heart. And I found Chosen to be such a better ending for my girl than The Gift would have been.

Very cool cover indeed, a classic iconic image of Buffy and Xander.

Yeah, I can't say I'm not wary myself for the prospects of 'cannon' continuing, all things considered but to JW's credit, he's certainly selling himself well on this. I very much get the inpression that even he's aware that by Season Seven, he was far from at his best. Most inportantly, what apears to be a return to the focus where it belongs, the core Scoobies, is the biggest sign of hope.

oh boy, Joss is going to be particulary giddy at the larger opertunties to test the rules of his new playground. He could enjoy playing with the toys he never could in TV land so much, that he might choose to be more plot and character driven indiviualy. He can finally go fully into directions where he isn't bound by certain annoying traditions of TV.

Heehee, ooooh my dear Butterfly, I've a feeling you'll be pleased to hear about the status sitcuation regarding Angel, Spike and The Immortal. Even speaking objectively, I personaly feel thats the best way to go and not before time either, heh.
