Elaboration...
Jun. 27th, 2002 11:04 pmHonestly, yes, it bugs me 'cause it's Britney, in particular. I see too much of the girl as is. I don't want to see her in anything. I'm not seeing Goldmember because my 'when will Britney appear' dread would sap out the enjoyment of the silly movie. I recently threw away my Baby... One More Time CD because even having that much Britney in the house was driving me insane. I feel like I'm being smothered in the Britney and really don't like being forced to see her.
And it is forced. Buffy and *nsync are my two fucking passions and Britney is now tangled in both of them. And I see her on TV, when I watch it. And she's online everywhere. You. Cannot. Avoid. Her.
And that is why I don't want Britney on Buffy. And maybe that's the same attitude that the Star Wars people had, although, as I recall, it was always made known that their parts would be incredibly small, with no talking.
Someone else also made a good point about why this is Not Fun: It breaks the fantasy. Britney is Britney. To me, SMG is Buffy, I never knew her as anything else. I never knew any of the Buffy people as anything before. It made the fantasy complete, in a way that, for example, Andromeda can't be for me, 'cause Kevin Sorbo was Hercules.
So, yes. Will reserve my right to be pissed. Would be thrilled beyond measure if she ends up only playing the Bronze or something. That I could tweak into my fantasy world. But not BritBrit as a character.

Date: 2002-06-27 11:30 pm (UTC)I completely agree. Britney has been shoved down America's collective throat for a long time now, far too much hype for very little talent.
On the Buffy issue, I completely agree with everything you said. Buffy is a separate universe, and putting Britney or really any other well known media icon on the show destroys my fantasy world. It pisses me off that Joss would agree to this, because it reeks of stunt casting and I have always held the opinion that Buffy was too good a show to sink to that level in the ratings wars. Also, granted there have been some sub-par actors on Buffy, but the majority, and certainly all of the principle, actors are very good and Brit does not have the talent or comedic timing to share screen time with them.

Date: 2002-06-28 12:10 am (UTC)But Joss isn't the type to bring a pop star into his show, sacrificing it's dignity, just for the gratuity.
So all I'm saying is that what he's planning better be pretty damn good (and involve slash and bringing back Faith and Oz) for me to be happy with it.

Mmm...Faith.

Goddammit
Re:

Or, I could write a fan letter to Joss and put this in it.
