I mean, I really do. I like Evil!Spike. I like Obsessed with Buffy!Spike, even. I really like crazy Spike.

I just didn't like Fandom!Spike. Mr. 'I'm good without a soul', Mr. 'Buffy doesn't love me, so she's a bitch'.

Or, worst of all, the whole 'Spuffy' thing. The name itself makes me shudder in distaste. Spuffy. It's so... I hate to say stupid, but, you know what? I really want to say stupid.

I liked what the writers did with the Spike/Buffy relationship. Pretty much everything, actually. I just hate what a lot of fandom has done with them. Most of fandom, from what it seemed.

I think that's why I've never been able to get into Buffy fic, or any FP fic really. RP fic is like your own interpretation of the person or whatever (although to some degree it's the same as FPF). But with something like Buffy fic.. it's like.. Joss does it best. You know? Like there's no point trying to make a "better" story than the one he's made or try to interpret the characters your own way, because his is consistent and obviously, true to the characters (since you know, they're *his* characters). Like not that I have anything against FPF, but I think that's why I can't personally buy into most of it. Because I demand consistency and continuity in my fic. And if someone's story is making me go "Uh, that character would SO not ever do that. That makes no sense," then I'm not going to enjoy the story.

Um. I think that made sense. Heh. s

It makes total sense. And I wouldn't write B/X if they had more than moments in the show. I adore Joss, I do, but he is the worst tease in existence. I mean, she checks his watch. And... And... He's evil, that's all.

And. He made me fall in love with B/X and then jerked me around for six, coming on seven, seasons.

Since I don't read Buffy/Spike fic I can't really comment on the characterization of Spike, though if what you say is true, it would annoy the shit out of me too. I adore Spike beyond belief and I still don't buy that he's "good without a soul". He didn't choose to stop biting people, he couldn't, and then he fell in love with Buffy and basically hunted vamps as a way to be near her (or carry on without her). And I always fully understood why Buffy never fell for him and never thought her a bitch. But I do have to say:

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Spuffy?? SPUFFY???

::wipes tears from eyes::

That's almost as bad as Jelly! Why do people think these terms are good? First of all, they don't incorporate anything to do with the nature of the relationship of the couple or the members of it (like, say, Lambs), and secondly...they sound stupid! Good lord!

I know. I really don't get why people adopt these things. I don't get Clex, either. I mean, why do that?

What is with mooshing names together? Seriously, we need to change 'slash' to 'moosh' because that's now the most common way of showing it.

spuffy Is a Vile, Vile Vile Term

and to me, is practically derogatory. I mean, it's so Fucking Fluffy sounding, it reduces all the warts and freakish beauty of the Buffy and Spike relationship to something bland and processed like a Hallmark Card...or Spam.

Whenever someone uses it, I want to hork.

That's exactly it. It takes all of the interesting stuff out.

Spuffy was originally meant as a derogatory term.

And may I say AMEN to your post? And to the lack of TWOP and fannish sniping and just ENJOYING the hell out of one's shows.

Thank you.

AMEN.
