Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Dec. 18th, 2002 09:55 pmThat was... epic.
Maybe this'll be easier if I go group by group.
Frodo/Sam/Gollum: Incredible. Elijah manages to convey the enormous burden of the ring. Sean continues to be an absolute pillar of strength. Gollum... so convincing. The Frodo/Sam stuff was definitely the heart of the film. Sam's speech at the end will probably tear me up at least one of the times I see the movie. And Frodo's need to save Smegol was very touching. He can feel himself falling under the spell of the ring and wants proof that he can come back from it. Amazing stuff.
Gandolf: Wonderful way to begin the film. He was just great all through. Nothing but good things.
Merry/Pippin: Brilliant. They were so brave and tough and sweet. Pippin was positively inspired. Just brilliant. And I loved the Ents. Very cool things, Ents.
Aragorn/Legolas/Gimli: Orlando continues to amaze me by being so affecting yet injecting a touch of... otherworldliness in everything he does. The comradery between the three was great. I loved everything they did together. Or separately, really. So, everything, then.
Elves: Very cool. Liked seeing the bond between Arwen and Aragorn. All the elves ruled.
Brilliant film. Funny, scary, touching.
