Heat
She'd kissed him last night and he'd pushed her away.
It may have had something to do with her approach.
She'd cornered him in the basement and had basically tried to jump him.
And then Spike had blushed and stammered and well...
She'd been totally turned off.
He almost hadn't needed to push her away. When she saw him acting so... unlike her fantasies... hell, her memories, she'd needed to be away from him to change her entire way of looking at him.
Spike had turned her entire body to an inferno, before.
And now he was leaving her luke-warm.

I like the imagery. Very plausible scenario.

One can't deny one's own inner nature, I suppose. And my inner nature is telling Buffy to get away from Spike. Of course, I said the same thing about Angel, and Parker, and Riley, once he started getting suck jobs (I was fine with him 'til then... as Buffy's boyfriend at least. He bored the hell out of me, but he seemed nice. Doomed, but nice.)
