So, I'm going to go to dad's today and show him the latest Buffy. Xander!

Ran across an argument against RPF. Those always give me such an odd feeling. Actually posted a reply, because the last response to her post was actually saying that RPF is libel, of all things. My post focused on the 'we know that it's fiction' thing.

I followed a link here and, while I certainly feel that you have the right to be squicked, I would like to say that writing RPF isn't about thinking that I have an 'in' on what the person in question is all about.

I write boyband slash. Lance and Justin from *nsync, for the most part. I don't think that they're having sex. It isn't about assuming or presuming. It's about making stuff up. It's fiction. It's always fiction.

I'm not writing about Justin and Lance. I'm writing about the Justins and Lances that are running about inside my head, just as I do when I write Buffy/Xander or Dylan/Harper. It's all fiction.

It would be different if we said that what we were writing were factual, but we don't. And as for canon... well, depending on the celebrity in question, there can easily be more canon to draw from. There's more *nsync information out there than there are episodes of Buffy.

Anyway, this post isn't about trying to change your feelings, just... trying to make sure that you don't have a mistaken impression about RPFers.

I'm going to try to go out to Klub Z tonight, but I probably won't. Dad has this thing where he likes to spend time with me when I'm over there.

My voice finally sounds normal again, which is a relief. That coughing thing lasted hella long.

Oh! And I'm rereading The Path of Dagger. Just started this morning.

Why do I adore the Wheel of Time series yet totally hate even the thought of reading Return of the King? I mean, I adore books that go into detail. I adore world-building books. I devoured the Dune books when I was 13-14. Yet Tolkien really makes me want to dump acid in my eyes.
