For me, the fascinating thing about vidding is that it's meta, basically (except for constructed realities, of course). You use what the show gives you and you construct an argument.

Ex. #1: Angel=GAY!!!
You say, watching Angel, "Dude, Angel's kinda gay." And if you are [livejournal.com profile] sisabet and [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett, you then come up with Whatever, which takes that argument and backs it up with visual evidence from the show. And then people are very amused.

Ex. #2: Jack - Daniel = sadness
You say, watching Stargate SG-1, "Dude, Daniel's death didn't really help Jack's state of mind." And if you are [livejournal.com profile] barkley, you then create Pretty Angry, where we can see for ourselves that Jack is indeed not so cheery and that Daniel's lack of a sense of self-preservation may have contributed just a bit.

Ex. #3: Stuart + (Vince + Cameron) = Stuart - Vince
You say, watching Queer as Folk, "Dude, Stuart is so very in love with Vince." And if you are me, you then make Someone Else's Prayer.

Someone Else's Prayer

Summary:
Vince isn't the only person here who wants what he can't have.

What I'd give right now not to even care
And then this could be someone else's prayer

In other news, the Narnia trailer takes my breath away. Just... the pretty. That is one seriously shiny trailer. It's a good year to be of the fannish inclination -- there's a Big Damn Movie in September, and now this in December, and I'm looking forward to Harry Potter and the Missing Comma as well. Plus, I'm very much anticipating the third part of The Siege (Stargate Atlantis) and the ninth season of SG-1, both in July.

Thank you very much.

I just re-sent it, so this link (http://s33.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2LAJTWW9VWEIW02Y1T0RZIZ8MV) should work. Let me know what you think!

where do i even start? i guess by saying thanks for putting it up again for me, i know it must've taken a while to UL. and i'll try feedbacking, even though i sort of not v. good at it :)
the first time i saw it, my eyes literally got a bit wet. my god, the *love*... makes your heart constrict, doesn't it? and it's just so *sad*.
i liked the rooftop "kate winslet" scene as a running 'thread', at least in the beginning/middle of the vid. i liked how you worked in all the times stuart wedged himself between vince and cameron. but the thing i liked most is that the vid a side of stuart not shown so much in the show. or rather, it's there, but it's eclipsed by all the "king of canal street" / magnificent bastard scenes. this lovely yearning, loving, sad, vulnerable side. in the show, vince's longing for stuart is obvious, it's all over the place. with stuart, things are more subtle, but it's *there* and you've show-cased it beautifully.
the only thing i didn't like so much was the style of the credits (the moving-stopping-moving blurring/de-blurring thing), especially in the end, i think it detracts a bit from the strength of the final image in the vid. (btw the fade to blue was yours, right, not originally in the show?)
i've also DLed your new wes vid but i don't dare watch it. i'm pretty sure it will break my heart :(

Thank you!

Oh, wow, thank you. That is so wonderful to hear.

They really are (both subtle and there). I'm so happy that I captured just the thing that I was trying to capture. Stuart has such depth and we really only get to see hints of it in the series.

Thanks for the comments on the credits -- trying to figure out a smooth way to integrate them is something that I'm definitely still working on (I think that I did a better job of it in the Wes vid, though, so if you do watch it, let me know what you think).

Again, thank you so much!

you're welcome, the vid was wonderful to watch (and re-watch).

the subtlety of it is part of the allure, don't you think? i keep discovering new things when i rewatch the show again and again. this is what makes me love stuart, even though he's such a bastard to my darling vince sometimes. and i think this is one of the reasons i could never get into QAFUS. brian just seemed *off* and it was all so gaudy (if that's the word i'm looking for, or maybe it's gauche? not a native english speaker, alas).
about the credits - i remember one vid that totally blew me away with its use of credits. i don't remember the title, but i think it was by wolfling. i do know it was an eowyn vid (LOTR) and the title possibly had 'winter' in it. it did have fancy credits but they were so well done and went well with the vid as a whole.
:( i don't think i should watch your wes vid until i'm feeling more emotionally stable(the opening frame made me hit the "stop" button v.v.v. fast). i just don't think that i can handle it. i still haven't been able to make myself watch NFA. but i did skip to the ending to see the titles, and yes, they do fit more and seem less obtrusive than the ones in this vid, especially in the moment of transition from vid to credits. i'm still not that crazy about the visual effects (i'm more of a simple 'scroll up' girl, like the credits in the movies, or just one frame with all the info, dissolving or blurring later). it's just that the vids are so *strong*, and the text effects in the credits don't really add anything to it, and possibly detract something by drawing attention away from the effect of the vid on the viewer. then again, it's just my opinion. i apparently suck at vidding, so i can't say it counts for much :)

It's very helpful to hear that. Simplicity is often a good way to go, with these things. Again, thank you so much for the very detailed feedback.
