I feel as though I should be mourning, because Firefly is such a wonderful show. And it isn't even the hopes of movies or bringing it back that keeps me from sadness.

At the time I heard that it was cancelled, I was sad, because it was so loved - by fans, including myself, and by the people who created it. All that love should be rewarded, one thinks.

And yet, here it is, a dvd set with the word 'complete' on it. All that passion and all that love wasn't wasted, even if there's never another hint of Firefly on any screen. Everyone involved in the show truly loved it and worked hard to save it and some of them are still working hard to resurrect it.

What was it that Angel said to Buffy?

Angel: "I do know it's important to keep fighting. I learned that from you."
Buffy: "But we never..."
Angel: "We never win."
Buffy: "Not completely."
Angel: "We never will. That's not why we fight. We do it 'cause there's things worth fighting for."

Anything beloved is worth fighting for. Whether it's a person or a dream or a cause or a television show - if it matters, if it is loved, then it's worth the fight, even if you don't win.

In the Firefly theme, there's that phrase - "You can't take the sky from me," and no one can. No one can take a dream away from someone.

Firefly is a reminder to look up at the sky and see the beauty of the flickering black. Stars burn and explode, but their light lasts far beyond their time of dying. That's the way it is with anything that burns that hotly.

And as long as the show is loved, Serenity is still flying.

I finally got my DVD set from B&N. I just had a Fireflywatching party with a few folks; we sipped strawberry margaritas and had munchies while we saw the first 3 episodes (the first disc) in the order Joss intended. I hadn't seen any Firefly since it was aired, and I was struck anew (we all were) at how good it is, and what a shame it was that the show was cancelled. We all hope for a Fireflymovie. And I really hope that the DVDs sell like the proverbial hotcakes so the network execs kick them selves for cancelling it.

It is so annoying when replies don't take. I replied to this a while ago and was surprised when my reply didn't show up.

Anyway, I can't remember what I actually said, but I almost certainly agreed.
