Stargate (the movie)

First off, I must say that I really like the series casting better than the movie casting. Because in the series, a) Daniel is a geeky hottie and b) Jack is a snarky hottie. They are just both much hotter in the series. Much.

Also, it's always odd when a kid in a movie (or series) looks nothing like either of their parents (Lana Lang comes to mind, with three parental possibilities, none of which have the slightest bit of Asian in them at all -- I mean. Seriously. KK's like, half-Chinese or something (Chinese-Canadian? I can't really remember). Would it have killed casting to cough up one likely looking parent for her?). What, casting wasn't paying attention? It's particularly odd here, with Jack's dead son, since all they have of the kid is pictures in any case -- why not just drag a blond kid in front of the camera? It's just stills, he doesn't have to act.

Movie!Jackson does have an adorability factor. So, I can fanwank that series!Jackson is the result of him coming into his own as a hottie.

Okay, heh, the translation scene with the dudes who are all with the hand-gestures and Daniel's all, "they want us to go with them," and army dude is all, "how do you know that?" and Daniel's all, "Well, duh, did you see those hand gestures?" Cute.

Okay, so Daniel and Jack were replaced, but I think that Kawalsky and Skaar and Sha'whateverthefuck are the same. They all look familiar.

Aw, all the work that poor S'kid has to do basically just to say, "There's a fucking sandstorm out there, you moron. You have to stay inside."

And that's the point when I couldn't watch anymore. I'll try to finish it later, but honestly? I really want to send it in so that I can watch more of the series. Because I went and watched some Stargate vids (from last year's VividCon, the llamas tell me) and am yearning to see Daniel's growth over the seasons. Come As You Are was particularly enjoyable.

Because. Guh. And... yeah. The movie looks fine. I'll try giving it another watch before I send it back, but it just doesn't feel like Stargate without the Jack and Daniel that I already know. Plus, the series guys are hotter.

I always thought it was funny the way the casting went for TV Kawalsky. He looks much closer to the actor who played Feretti in the movie. And vice versa.
