For any posts about my AU or if I, you know, just want to use it. Made it my new default because Kate is very pretty.

The thing that made me think of it directly was seeing a female AU Daniel in a fic. I remember going -- wow, that's an interesting idea. I'd love to see what it would be like to have an AU-female Daniel (I soon decided on the name Abigail) interact with our crew.

The story reminded me of how much I adore [livejournal.com profile] aelora's 'girl!Clark' series, with Hudson/Lex. Changing one thing changes quite a bit -- I'm also trying to make sure that I only change things that would change with the switch in gender. I want everyone else to be the same, up to the point where that would effect them. Sam was still in the military in Abigail's world, Charlie still died, etc. Because most people do not react the same to women as they do men. Abigail is not Daniel in a large part because her personality was shaped by those differing reactions.

At the same time, I picked what I felt were 'core Jackson values', things that wouldn't change with the gender-flip, such as the lack of self-preservation instincts. That's totally a family trait.

Ooooh. That sounds so cool. Also: Something I could not write in a million years, since I'm in such deep denial about your premise. Best wishes!

The part with a het relationship in the AU?

And thank you. It's quite a lot of fun to write.

Actually, I pretend that people are treated the same regardless of gender. I'm aware that that's not how the world is, but that's how I want it to be.

I'm actually not in denial that het relationships occur. I know - astonishing.

Yeah, sadly that is the way society works. I can definitely understand why you'd wish it otherwise. It's frustrating, even the parts that seem good. Online is probably the closest that any of us can get to that kind of equality, but even here, there's assumption of gender and people are treated differently. Guy slashers are typically hailed as amazing even if they, you know, kinda suck, just because of the 'rarity' of them and the 'accuracy' of their writing.

Maybe you're in denial about your denial.
