My cousin Alex is coming home for Christmas. Actually, coming home tomorrow. I'll see him Sunday.

It feels silly to say it that way, as if Oregon were home for him -- it's not. He hasn't been a West Coaster for years and I know that he thinks of himself as a New Yorker.

I've just missed him.

Two big reasons -- first, he's just an amazing guy. I stayed over at his apartment when I saw Joey Fatone in Rent a couple of years back. He's a lot of fun and a really great guy.

The other big reason has to do with why he's my cousin -- namely, that he reminds me a great deal of my late aunt, his mother. Aunt Leslie was my safe place when I was a kid. When I lost her, that's when I lost myself for a while. Things with my folks had been bad for a while, but I always knew that Aunt Leslie was there for me. She made me feel protected in a way that no other human person has, before or after. She was elegant and artistic and she believed in me. Before she died, I was actually a very good student. I suppose that part of the reason that I can't handle school is because part of the reason that I did so well when I was young was because Aunt Leslie expected me to. I admired her so much.

Alex reminds me of her.

And, like I said, he's just a good guy.

My brother's also coming -- he had a change of plans. I expect that the news would be much more exciting if I weren't all excited out about seeing Alex. On Sunday.

Of course, now I need to buy presents for the late-arriving rats that they are.

[livejournal.com profile] jic -- I'll be there tomorrow around three-ish. I'm bringing Shanks' episode of Andromeda as well as the Stargate stuff. He's pretty. The caroling is five to eight, you said?

Joey Fatone was in Rent? What did he play? Angel? And wouldn't that have been worth seeing?

He played Mark, actually. He was really good. I had such a great seat, though. It was so much fun, plus, it was the best excuse to visit NYC ever.

Though Joey as Angel is an interesting thought, now that you mention it.
