spn 10x05 - dean and cas ask

Butterfly replies: I think it’s probably relevant to where the show currently is. Or maybe more what is key for Dean to see that he’s not been able to — maybe that Cas does want to stay but feels like he’s waiting on Dean’s word.
One of the big things about them picking that moment to put in the play is that it does tie play!Cas (and S5!Cas) to real!Cas (current!Cas) because play!Cas is waiting until Dean is rested/ready, while the last time we saw real!Cas, he was also suggesting that Dean rest — take a break from the action. So, because of that, it is referring back to what’s happening right now (even though Marie doesn’t know anything past “Swan Song”). If the audience thinks back two episodes, they might think about that Dean & Cas convo differently now. Or not, depending on their own headspace, but it gives them the opportunity to take a second look if they want.
