It's always deeply puzzling to me when I hear about cases of bad customer service. I have no idea why, but I've never had any. At VividCon last weekend? All of the various staff that I spoke to were nice, polite, and helpful. I found the shuttlesnot because of the unhelpful signs but because I asked people the way and they were all very nice about pointing the way out to me and explaining how the system worked. I've never been spoken down to, around, or ignored by employees of whatever place.

I do have various theories about this, most of which fall in the nebulous areas of either 'vibes' or 'really good luck'.

These are shorter than before, because notes are just notes and I remember less now than I did earlier.

Apparently, there's a big sporting-type event going on. Who knew? (joking. mostly.)

There's a website up for their work and now for her continuing work, right here.

I first encountered Dave and Tracy's music years ago. My mom wanted to take me to a music store to hear them play. They'd only recently started working together. There were only about twenty or thirty people listening. I was amazed by how beautiful they sounded together. Back then, Tracy's hair was shorter and she wore glasses. They were both very nice people.

I saw them one other time in person, probably a couple of years later. It was during their release of Drum Hat Buddha. There were a lot more people at that.

They had such a unique sound. Dave was the writer and some of his lyrics are so incredibly breathtaking. He died on July 19th, 2002 at age 49, of a heart attack. It's so odd to listen to his work, because so many of his songs do dance around death and dying.

I will fly like the falcon when I go...

On Sunday, the first thing I did after coming home from VividCon was to go to the 2nd Annual Dave Carter Memorial Tribute, as hosted by Tracy. Her hair is longer now and she wears contacts. I could only stay for an hour, after that, I had to leave. I hate crying in public.

He wrote such beautiful words, created such beautiful music. I only saw him in person twice, but he made a big impression.

Even now, I hate that I'll never hear him perform a new song.
butterfly: (Identity -- Daniel Jackson)
Now, it's really Daniel that I started watching for ([livejournal.com profile] lasultrix basically pointed me at many pretty pictures of Daniel and I eventually gave in and rented the show) and my favorite pairing out of the team is definitely Daniel/Jack, but I really do love all the team interaction.

*tilts head*

I really do need a team icon.

And on a completely different subject, I'm fascinated by the fact that Daniel dresses himself in that blue military thing (oh, I'm sure it has a name) in his own mind in Meridian. He feels that deeply inside the military thing. Then, of course, he wears that cream sweater for his three "Yes, I'm really Daniel" appearances to Jack and Teal'c and then Jack again (robes on Abydos, of course... he looks so good in robes). Before that, do we ever see that sweater outside his dream in Forever in a Day (well, it's either the same one or one that's a lot like it)? Does that sweater actually exist or is it just in his mind?

And once again, I'm amused at how much the clothes matter to me. I once spent half of Fellowship of the Ring telling my dad what the clothes were saying to me about the characters.
