It's always deeply puzzling to me when I hear about cases of bad customer service. I have no idea why, but I've never had any. At VividCon last weekend? All of the various staff that I spoke to were nice, polite, and helpful. I found the shuttlesnot because of the unhelpful signs but because I asked people the way and they were all very nice about pointing the way out to me and explaining how the system worked. I've never been spoken down to, around, or ignored by employees of whatever place.
I do have various theories about this, most of which fall in the nebulous areas of either 'vibes' or 'really good luck'.
These are shorter than before, because notes are just notes and I remember less now than I did earlier.
Streets on Fire (song by Porno for Pyros; vid by L'Abattoir) was a vid for Robbery Homicide Division. There was death and fire. I didn't really get it, possibly because I've never seen the show. It was all a bloody blur to me.
Closer to Fine (song by the Indigo Girls; vid by Wolfing) was a Six Feet Under that I liked but not as much as I could have. It was a touch too literal for me, though I did enjoy the Nathaniel framing device. It did make me think about renting more of the dvds from netflix.
Boys Keep Swinging (song by David Bowie; vid by Kathy, Kay, & Jill) was a fun and bouncy Stargate vid about Daniel. It was fun and bouncy. It was also several days ago. All I really remember at this point is that I really liked it. It's a bright and shiny blur.
Change (song by The Getaway People; vid by Juliette Torres) was a Fight Club vid that I adored. So much. It had pretty much everything in it that made Fight Club such a unique and worthwhile movie. I loved the touches of unreality that were given to us in the movie and loved seeing them in the vid.
Blue Skies for Everyone (song by Bob Schneider; vid by snoo and tzikeh) was a Dead Like Me that really made me want to watch the show. It has whimsy and bittersweet death! What can be better than that?
Rough Boys (song by Pete Townshend; by Zeneyepirate) was a fun multi-fandom vid of hot guys in action. No deepness, just pretty.
100 Years (song by Five for Fighting; vid by Angel) was a Star Wars and it pretty much made me cringe. It forced the characters into lyrics that didn't fit them, merely because they looked closest to the age mentioned.
Thistledown Tears (song by Jeffrey Foucault; vid by here's luck). Firefly. I had something in my eyes and that's why they were wet throughout this vid. Honest. Really. Something in my eye. Eyes. Both of them.
Not Only Human (song by Heather Nova; vid by Laura and Killa) was a truly beautiful X-Files vid about Scully. What I know about Scully can be summed up thus -- a really hot religious and scientific redhead who starts out a non-believer in aliens. This vid made me want to get to know her.
Forget Me Not (Bury My Lovely) (song by October Project; vid by Mad Poetess) was a gorgeous and amazing The Others vid... that I'd really only recommend if you've seen the movie. I adored it, but wow, it needs the context to reach its full beauty. The lyrics work so wonderfully with the story and themes of the movie and with what happens with Nicole's character. And I have such love for the movie in the first place, so having a great vid for it is just marvelous.
The Highway (song by Audioslave; vid by Morgan Dawn) is a Jeremiah vid that just didn't hit me in the right places. I got the sense of this post-apocalyptic world, but I never got why I should care.
Quixote (song by Bon; vid by Waldo.) was a West Wing vid. It was boring. I mean. Really. Maybe because I'm not in fandom, or maybe because it was just a boring vid.
Ordinary (song by Paula Cole; vid by Pipsqueak) is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer from the point of view of early seasons-crushing on Xander!Willow. Willow is one of the places where I seem to part company with most fannish women -- she's not a favorite of mine and while I understand her, I don't feel for her. Partly because she's so passive in the early seasons, partly because her attitude always struck me as hypocritical -- how she felt about Xander was just how he felt about Buffy, but she took joy in the knowledge that Buffy would never go there (her glee in The Witch when Buffy has the exact same reaction to Xander that he had to Willow earlier is one example). So, while I adored the vid, it was for different reasons than it seems that most did. It was fascinating as a tight Willow-pov vid, one that showed only her side of things, where she is the Devoted Best Friend to That Bastard who Keeps Falling for Those Sluts. And damn, it reminded me of what good taste Xander has in women. Buffy, Ampata (who I have such a soft spot for, poor kit), and Cordy were all very hot in the vid. Mmm.
Did You (song by Hoobastank; vid by Destina) was a Stargate vid that is just... perfect. It captures the joy and wonder and teamness of Stargate that got me so hooked on the show. The vid summed up the four members of the team and also illustrated their relationships and it did so with a light, deft touch that danced around death and possibility.
Untitled 6 (song by Sigur Ros; vid by Jill and Kathy) was a Touching Evil (US) that failed to touch a chord with me. I felt no sense of connection with the people or the themes expressed.
Big Red Boat (song by Grey Eye Glances; vid by Seah and Margie) was a bouncing, gleeful Joan of Arcadia vid that focused on the most important relationship in the show -- Joan and God. Total and complete fun and, damn them, but I'm going to be doing my best to start watching JoA again next season.
Apparently, there's a big sporting-type event going on. Who knew? (joking. mostly.)

Date: 2004-08-18 12:47 pm (UTC)Case in point -- This last year I ran into
Also, it was the third year in a row that the keys needed to be replaced more than once during our stay. Makes you wonder.
