Good or bad, Threads is certainly prompting a lot of discussion, which is something that I always enjoy.

And have I mentioned my glee at being part of a living fandom again? I'm thrilled, too, that Atlantis is perking up and will hopefully be a source of joy and fandom when SG-1 ends (possibly after the ninth season, but who knows, as they always think the next season is the last).

I'm also finding BSG to be a really interesting show but... I don't feel fannish about it. I just want to watch it and don't care about dissecting it.

Interesting. I'm finding quite the opposite--it's the first show in quite a while that I want to rewatch and rewatch, to catch all the texture and details and nuances.

I think that the problem is that I haven't fallen in love. On BTVS, I fell in love with Buffy and Xander in the first episode that I saw. The reason that it took me so long to get into Angel is because the one character that I did fall in love with on first viewing, Doyle, died nine episodes in. On SG-1, I fell for Jack within his first ten sentences and was sold on Daniel in his first scene.

Of all the characters, the one that intrigues me the most is Six. She's fascinating. Most of the characters are interesting, but they just haven't made me feel passionate yet.

Interesting--we clearly react in completely different ways! I fall in love with atmosphere, particularly if it's at all dark and/or brooding. Hence, Angel, hence Carnivale, hence Galactica. Character-love comes later, if at all, and is normally not in isolation. For instance I don't find Six herself fascinating, but I do find the interplay between her and Baltar fascinating (disclaimer: I'm up to 1x03).

Man, I sound like a goth. Oops.

Hee.

But yeah, that's an interesting difference.

I enjoy atmosphere, but if I can't connect with the characters and their arcs, then I'm not going to be analysing the show, because my analysis is directly character-based. It's characters and relationships that make me want to talk. This is why the type of show doesn't matter so much as whether the characters speak to me. I don't really care about vampires one way or the other, but BtVS was my first true fannish love. I have more of an innate love for Sci-Fi stuff, but even that feels pointless to me if I can't like the characters.
