Guess who has the Definitive Collector's Edition of Queer as Folk (UK)? It arrived today. I wasn't expecting it until Monday! The estimated delivery date was the 22nd!

So, my dvd player on my computer is going to temporarily be region 2 until I get that regionless dvd player that I have my eye on (it'll let you change it four times before it's permanent).

I've only read the liner so far and I'm already in heaven -- Russell T. Davies explains that the reason he wrote QaF was because he wrote an episode of a soap and thought his writing was being strangled because, in soaps, people always say what they're thinking. So, in QaF, he wanted people to talk the way that people really talked -- and people mostly don't say what they think.

Excerpt:
The whole series is based on two men who love each other, but never say so. The standard drama scenes don't appear: Vince never stands crying in the rain declaring his love for Stuart. And how did Bernie end up living with Hazel? Why did Romey choose Stuart? Do Stuart and Vince end up together? I don't know; it's up to you.

I'm so very sorry, Joss, but I now love RTD more than I love you.

Yep. That's it exactly, and that's what makes it so damn great.

RTD is the reason I may be able to bear watching the new Dr Who (well that and Christopher Eccleston)

It really is. I love that they don't, that it's just... there.

RTD's a wonderful writer. Just wonderful.

Butterfly - why don't you change the setting to region 0? That way it will be multi region and you won't need a multi region DVD player.

And I love QAF too.

Tried doing that on my dvd player and it didn't seem to work. But I couldn't find exact instructions for my type anywhere.

And yeah. It's wonderful. Though I'm shocked at how gorgeous Nathan is in the second series. First series, I felt nothing. Second? All of a sudden, he's beautiful. Could be the hair.

Aww sorry to hear that it didn't work, but I'm definitely going to try out that programme below - my computer isn't multi region either - but I have cracked my DVD player.

Yeah, I just love watching Stuart and Vince. I'll maybe have to rewatch to see if I enjoy watching Nathan now. He annoyed me the first time around.

Yeah. Just. So much love for them.

Nathan still annoys me in the first series. I think that it doesn't change in second, though, come to think -- I think that I start to like him when he 'outs' Christian as a basher in (was it?) Via Fosse. Of course, he still has very few clues, but he's out of the complete brattiness that he lives in for the first series and moved onto a more likable arrogance.

Psst. Remote Selector. I discovered it the other day - it's a tiny exe you run it in the background, and it convinces your chosen player that it's region-free. Thus the player doesn't change regions, so no restriction to four times.

Instant region-free computer DVD goodness!

You're fantastic. I've just downloaded it and tested it out. Marvelous. Thank you.

And now I've seen the second series. Brilliant. But wow, it's even more obvious to me, in the second series, how much Stuart does fancy Vince. He tries at least five times to get Vince into bed. It's Vince who has to get past the 'sex with Stuart will make Stuart old' thing. Stuart knows he's lovely.
