1. Star Wars dvds -- The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones

I was planning on waiting until RotS was out as well, but apparently, November is too far away. So, if you've been reading White Rabbits, that's why the next part isn't done yet -- I want to rewatch AotC for some characterization notes. I may give in before the dvds arrive and rely on my memory, or I may not.

I'm just... very much about the SW right now. It is appealing to me on so many levels. Anakin/Obi-Wan hits my 'best friends!' kink hard, plus it's epic tragedy, which I adore. And they have banter! I love banter. And they are equals. And this is the reason that Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon could never be my thing -- I don't do the mentor/student thing, and neither do Anakin/Obi-Wan. Well, they don't succeed at it.

And the same thing (love) that doomed Anakin in RotS is what saved him in RotJ. I've heard it mentioned that the reason that Luke could succeed in saving Anakin is because he is the combination of all the people that Anakin has loved -- Shmi, Obi-Wan, and Padme. He was raised on Tatooine, he was trained as a Jedi, but he loves and is willing to express that love openly.

Also, I really want to rewatch AotC so that I can compare the look he has after his mom dies to the way he looks after Dooku Force-flings Obi-Wan, as my head is insisting that it's the same kind of angry determined glariness.

2. VividCon! -- Only Two (and a half-ish) Weeks Away
I had so much fun last year, even though I was terrified. This year, I will likely be less terrified, which should equal more fun. Plus, as I've vidded a bit since last year, I will actually understand what people are talking about this time. Sweet.

3. Movie Madness
Movies that I actually plan to see in theaters include Serenity (Eeee! So looking forward to this, and so very much feeling envy towards those on my flist who've already seen it!), The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Aslan, man. Aslan.), RENT! (Just, yes. Please. I already know that I'll love it, because I already love it and it has so much of the original cast in it and I'm looking forward to seeing them in it! Eee!), and Goblet of Fire (though I'm sure that I'll have hair issues). I'm also considering going to see The Island with my dad on Friday so that I'll have paid to see the movie. I liked it enough to have paid for it, so it feels wrong to have seen it and not paid. Plus, dude, that movie has serious pretty. And it isn't dumb. I like movies that have both gloss and brains.

That's exactly how I feel about it as well.
I think it's also why prior to episode III, Anakin/Obi-Wan didn't appeal to me very much. I read it occasionally, but I wasn't hooked. It still was too much of a mentor/student bond and like you I want to read about relationship between equals.

It's similar in the Harry Potter universe: I checked out some Draco/Snape stories (I like both characters), but they mostly squick me. But now that Draco is doing some growing up in book VI, I can see interesting ways on how this pairing could work. Let's see what book VII brings - even though Snape is so doomed. :-)

Right -- in retrospect, I really enjoy the tense set-up of AotC, but at the time, it really didn't do anything for me, pairing-wise.

I have to agree with your review of The Island. So pretty. So much goodness!

Yes! It was so good!

Why did the marketing for it have to suck so very much?

I know! I feel it was criminal the way it was presented. I thought that the trailers simultaneously gave away too much and revealed too little.

Great movie, though.

Yes, exactly. We found out about the cloning and there not being an island in the trailer. It undermines the very beginning of the movie and also, it does destroy interest in the movie, because who wants to see a movie called The Island when they already know that 'there is no island'?

But the movie was quite good.
