So, I just saw The Pillow Book. And... really wasn't prepared. I knew the big thing that was going to happen, but the movie itself was... very much a surprise

I may have thought that I was ready to see Ewan... well, die and become a book, but it really isn't something that I was ready for at all.

The movie itself was fascinating. And more than a little creepy. Because, you know, book of human flesh. And seeing Jerome die and how and why... it was an interesting movie. The ink coming out of his mouth was a little... um... disturbing. To say the least.

You know, I may still be in a slight state of shock.

Though Ewan McGregor really is unspeakably beautiful in this movie. I mean. Good Lord.

And now, I'm going to go watch Young Adam.

I might brave that one.

And yes, Pillow Book mucho on the disturbing. Beautiful, but I'm not sure if I want to see it again.

*hugs Trainspotting to self*

Oh, Trainspotting is great! Though not without its disturbing moments.

I agree -- even though I love Pillow Book, parts of it are very disturbing. What happens after that trail of ink bothers me most, I think. But oh! the pretty.

Hmm. Young Adam?

It really is one of those movies that walks the line between far too disturbing and far too beautiful.

Young Adam?

Didn't get around to it last night, but I'm looking forward to watching it. Ewan plays a drifter named Joe who gets to have lots of brief affairs.

I adore that movie. There's really nothing else like it anywhere.

You speak the truth. There really isn't.

I can't wait to see The Pillow Book not-in-fullscreen. It was so badly cropped. ::has ordered it to watch it properly:: It's funny, most people know about the dying and becoming a book going in, but it's so much weirder than expected when it comes up that no forewarning will allow you to parse it.

I love Young Adam. I've managed to see it three times now in the past few weeks, with different people. Man, I thought I had scratched the surface of what it was about but two nights ago after [livejournal.com profile] takokami saw it he started going off on all these questions and observations for like... twenty minutes, and half of them were inconclusive but obviously anwserable, and I was like "..... o_o;; So apparently this is going to take a few more viewings."

...

The very thought horrifies me. This movie was so carefully put together, that to chop any bits of it off is just... wrong.

It's funny, most people know about the dying and becoming a book going in, but it's so much weirder than expected when it comes up that no forewarning will allow you to parse it.

That is so true.
