Rented the movie version of The Dead Zone and it's exactly the kind of movie that I would never bother renting (before netflix, which makes it less of a big deal). Not my thing at all and it didn't capture me in the least. There's a reason that I'm not a huge Stephen King fan, after all. Also, Christopher Walken cannot help being creepy and I'm used to my Johnny Smith as, well, very much not creepy.

It just really lacks the... heart and warmth that the series has (which is very fitting for the kind of movie that it is. It's just not the kind of thing that I like all that much).

Yeah, I thought about renting it, but the TV version of the show has influenced me too much. I like Christopher Walken in things, but I can't deal with him as Johnny. *shudder* Not really a big King fan, either.

The show has definitely influenced me, yeah. Johnny's just such a sweet guy in the series.

My thoughts exactly. I saw the movie when it was first released, after having read King's book, and while the concept was interesting, Walken really creeped me out.

Because of that, I hesitated about watching The Dead Zone series, but was very pleasantly surprised by both the performance of Anthony Michael Hall, and the tone of the series. It soon became one of my favorites, so much so that I've bought the DVDs for each season so far.

I must say I'm not terribly crazy about this apocalypse scenario that keeps popping up, but I suppose it's necessary since, unlike the film, Johnny's character must go on, and I suppose Stillson is as good an adversary as any.

I've been really impressed by AMH. He gets to play such a variety of roles in the show, so it really shows off his range.

Never having seen the tv series, Christopher Walken is Johnny to me. Very sensitive performance, imo. But then, I do like Stephen King.

The series is a very different animal than the movie, though you can see the SK roots.

A few years ago, I probably would have enjoyed the movie more, as there was a period of my life where I did read and enjoy a lot of Stephen King. Not sure when my taste changed, but it definitely has.
