butterfly: (Unpredictable -- River)

I have not a thought in my head right now but for Firefly, as Serenity has made everything else blow away.

Since I left the theater, there's one main thought that's been running through my head -- he killed Wash. Of all the things that happened, that one is... persistant. I'm really glad that I'm rewatching the movie tomorrow, because I didn't take in enough of the movie after that happened. He'd killed Wash, and that meant that he could kill anyone. I was seriously afraid that Simon would die, that Zoe would get herself killed, that Jayne would die, or Kaylee. The only two people that I wasn't deeply worried over were Mal and River because... on the movie poster.

But, god, wow. That movie lived up to the hype. Moreso.

Wow.

ETA: If you saw the movie in previews and wrote about it then, I'd love to know so that I can go see what you said. Because I'm going to go back over today, but there were a lot of previews for this movie, going back quite some time in the past.

The movie was awesome. I cried after Wash died, but not right afterwords. It took a while for it to really sink in that he killed Wash off. And your right, after that it felt like anyone could be killed off. I felt something I rarely feel for main characters in a movie: afraid for their lives!

The movie really was amazing though. I loved it!

I didn't cry until I saw his headstone at the end. That's what made me really emotionally grasp that there's no take-back button at the end of the movie.

Which is a thing that I love about Joss. No take-backs. Sometimes, the follow-through isn't what I'd personally want, but there is always follow-through.

OMG, yes - exactly it. I was in such shock, I just sat and stared at the screen.

I should have known, knowing Joss' penchant for shaking up the world. And yeah, follow-through of the utmost kind.

I know! I wasn't expecting Book to die, but it didn't come as a huge surprise. But Wash! So quick! And Zoe, oh my Zoe. I was so scared for her after that. Anything could've happened then, because even though it was unlikely Joss would kill so many of his cast, I knew that emotionally and plot-wise they were all ripe for the picking. Meep!

Must watch again tomorrow.

Yes, I'm so glad that I'm going to be seeing it again. The first time was just... so emotionally draining. Wonderful but stressful. Of course, this time I'm going to know about Wash's impending death, which is another kind of stressful, I would imagine.

I felt the same way after Wash died, and I was really honestly scared that more of them would die. I wasn't expecting wash to die. I heard rumors that one of them would die and I kind of figured it would be Book....so after Wash kicked the bucket I really had no idea what was going to happen next. I was on the edge of my seat. This was one of the best movies I've seen all summer, hell all year. I can't wait to see it again with my husband.

Right -- Book's death didn't surprise me, but Wash's just grabbed me by the throat.

Such a wonderful movie. Wow.

I could believe he killed Book. Wash? I think I'm in denial! I liked Wash, what with his dinosaurs and his one-liners and his total love for Zoe, and what's she going to do now? She won't laugh again for years, if ever.

*sob!*

I know! Zoe was so different at the end, all shut down and... I was so, so sad for her. Because Wash gave her a level of joy that, from what we saw in flashbacks, she may never have had before. They just deeply, deeply loved each other in a very real, powerful way.

I just got back from the theatre and this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/musical_emjay/30400.html#cutid1) was my immediate, knee-jerk reaction. More analytical thoughts may be forthcoming, but I have to stop crying first :(

I know! It was such an emotionally draining movie. I feel exhausted and yet almost jumpy. And I really want to see it again.

My two (http://www.livejournal.com/users/annavtree/84997.html) reviews (http://www.livejournal.com/users/annavtree/88767.html). I am still pissed about the Wash thing seeing as he was my favorite character and the Zoe/Wash ship was my favorite canon jossverse ship of all time. I was hoping that Joss changed his mind between now and the previews.

Yes, I am that delusional.

Zoe/Wash was my favorite canon Jossverse 'ship, too. They were so sweet and in love and just... just wonderful.

I really hope that maybe there can be a Wash flashback in the next movie (let there be a next movie).

Your response was the same one I had after seeing the movie in August. I loved the movie, thought it was fantastic and loved what he did with the Reavers and River's story. But the thing that kept running through my mind the entire train ride home was "He killed Wash. Omigod, he killed Wash. Wash is dead." I felt so much for Zoe, especially when she wasn't crying but so obviously wanted revenge.

I can't wait to see the movie again when it opens next week here in the U.K.

I know! Zoe's response was so very Zoe. She was so hurt and angry and lost, but she's such a strong woman and a good soldier and... I love her. I love all of them so much, especially dear, soaring Wash.

I have my posts from the preview screening in a memory category if you want to check there. Also, I know [livejournal.com profile] elke_tanzer saved a huge number of posts from preview screenings in a memory category.

I wrote about it here when I saw it back in May. Alan Tudyk and Gina Torres were with us in the audience so it was quite the experience. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/theantimodel/89894.html#cutid1)
