My disappointment over dropped character and relationship arcs in VLD S8 happening in such close proximity to that nail-biting episode of Critical Role did remind me of one of the things that I love so much about CritRole and the RPG genre:
Because every protagonist is helmed by a specific player, every main character has a fierce advocate (of course, it does mean if that person isn’t there, their character will fall a bit to the wayside - ex. Yasha while Ashley films in NY). But, in general, I don’t have to worry about things like Caleb’s friendship with Nott suddenly disappearing and them only having work-related convos, because that friendship is incredibly important to Liam and Sam. Because the players power the characters, the core of the characters will always be intact. And that’s not something that can be guaranteed with pretty much any network-type show.Original Post: VLD S8 & Critical Role
