Some brief thoughts while waiting for AoS to come on (I’m watching that one on my tv):
No more killing angels, Hannah insists. Unless, you know, they disobey orders and then it’s totally killing time. Honey. Baby. Sweetie. Do you… um. I’d like to point out the hypocrisy of your actions to you, if I may.
Hypocrisy is kinda the order of the day, though. After professing so strongly to Dean last season how important it was that he never ever lied to him… of course, one of Crowley’s lies is revealed this episode. Heaven and Hell continue to echo each other. (and you can kinda see Dean going ‘well, fuck this then’ when it’s revealed that Crowley has been lying to him)
And both Cas and Dean are being cajoled by their respective realm representives (Hannah and Crowley) to work instead of mope or party (respectively). Mirror-mirror on the wall. And both of their stasis are broken by those representatives.
Cole thought he had an ace in the hole with Sam… but that ace burnt up weeks ago (months? I think they say how long, but I don’t recall the exact number). Dean’s willing to put Cole on the kill list, sure, but not willing to barter his own presence for Sam’s life. So, Cas kills one of his brothers and Dean leaves his brother to be killed.
Also, they were both seen naked by their respective realm representative and didn’t care, which is minor but, idk, amusing.
Demon!Dean is Dean… and is not Dean. Dean without his caring is interesting. Because he does still have many of Dean’s impulses, but there’s something… missing. Something that lets him be cruel in a way that he wasn’t capable of, and yet… he’s not like most demons. He’s violent… when attacked (or when he feels someone else has been harmed). He’s cruel… when he’s feeling defensive. But he’s not violent or cruel just for funtimes, like most demons, though he goes to extremes he never would have before. He was only interested in Ann-Marie as long as she was still interested in him, just like the real Dean Winchester would be, with zero interest in forcing the issue (thank fucking goodness for that, because s9 had me worried).
Cas was… low. Very low. “I miss him.” :-( Basically, I was making that face during all of his scenes.
And Hannah dismissing “art, love, dreams” (there was a fourth thing, but I missed it – hope, maybe?) as irrelevant human things, while it’s obvious that Cas is broken-hearted over wanting those very things.
He still thinks Dean is dead and his body was stolen, yes? Since Sam didn’t inform him about this episode’s events (yet).
I could have sworn I read Dar was a re-occurring character, so I wonder if we’ll see her back.
Both Sam and Cole playing with the idea of humans being the real monsters, with Cole threatening to kill someone he doesn’t seem to have any grievance with in an attempt to reach Dean, and with Sam doing his mysterious ~dark things~. Oh! And I did find Cole (and his surprise!family) much more interesting in this episode than I have in the promo material, yay.
