Very powerful episode! It’s a Berens episode, so I’m not surprised, but great to get at this point in the season. Delphine was a wonderful character, striking and well-drawn, and Dean’s interactions with both her and the guy he stole the clothes from (not remembering his name off the top of my head) were very good.
And, of course, Dean’s just dealt with this overwhelming situation of watching some very good people die… and immediately learns from Sam that Cas is possessed by Lucifer. So, you know, to make a depressing day a million times worse…
Dean clinging to the idea that Cas could never have chosen this is very heartbreaking. Especially since Cas did it for very similar reasons to why Dean argued that he should be the one to go back to get the Hand – he’s useless on his own in the fight against Amara, so let him be the one to risk his life so that the person who can ‘actually’ kill her can take his shot (that being Lucifer/Sam respectively, from Cas/Dean’s PoV).
Interesting that they had Delphine carry visual callbacks to Amara but then she’s the one who powers up with the HoG in order to take down the Thule ship – might be a hint towards a Darkness/God merger being the season endgame solution?Original Post: spn 11x14 - the vessel
