So, Piper (the lady Sam slept with) seemed very much Jess-like in looks.
Very strong contrast between Dean straight-up saying in his 10x16 confessional that he wants ‘more’ versus his complete inability to admit anything like that to Sam in this episode, declaring instead that one-night stands are all either of them can ever have, because they’re inherently unsuitable for ‘domestic life’. Again, Dean hides a lot of his emotional life from Sam. Also, by diving back into sexual waters for the first time since breaking things off with Amelia, I’d say that Sam’s Galahad mirroring is permanently broken (though it hasn’t been relevant in a while). We see him flirting with the clerk at the Gas-n-Sip later that same episode (also a blonde woman, I notice). Given some spoilers we’ve heard about a later episode, there’s a flip going on here between the brothers that hopefully I will remember to talk about when that later episode airs.
Surprising no one, Matt Cohen was lying his ass off about his snippet in the CHCH promo being a ‘deleted scene from season 5′. I actually do love that Sam’s getting visions using an image of young!John rather than JDM!John – it layers over this added surreal element to the encounter. Also, Matt Cohen! <3
When Sam said, “We turned out okay,” I literally laughed out loud. lol, no. You boys are so screwed up by the life. ‘Okay’ is such an inaccurate description of how you turned out. But, of course, it wasn’t really John he was talking to, so there’s that, lol.
Honesty with Dean! It’s good that Sam’s being honest. Has Dean told him everything about the conversation that he had in his own vision?
I almost wonder if Dean’s pointed “I read.” there was Robbie taking back the narrative from Jared and Jensen swapping their lines in “Slumber Party”.
Dean’s dream about his dad is super-depressing. Wow. The dad he wished he’d had. Ah. Interesting that Sam dreams about his mom instead of his dad, considering how few memories he would have of her. I was going to say that I will go investigate that ‘favorite song of mom’s’ that came up in the episode, but I’m sure someone else already either looked it up or recognized it themselves.
The sexist ‘brother banter’ of ‘jerk/bitch’ returns. *sigh* I really wish that had stayed in the past where it belonged. I guess they felt like they needed to ‘give it back’ to the brothers after having Dean do it with surrogates? But it’s a super-gross thing, so I wish it had just died. I really wish they wouldn’t choose to use ‘call-backs’ that are based in sexism or other bigotry.
By contrast, I loved the valet joy-riding scene. That was just fun. And it helped save Dean’s life later.
And I also loved Cas-on-the-phone, while Dean’s thing happens outside. Cas’s worried cries of “Dean! Dean!” when Dean was fighting was really heart-yanking. Also, it was cute how Cas eventually decided to go ahead and say “werepire”.
Another depressing Winchester-mirror in Mrs. Markham. She ‘ruined everything’ and she needs to ‘give everything’ for her family and wants to ‘make it right’. But, otoh, she does survive the episode and so does (most of) her family. So, not as depressing as Jenna.
And here, a monster is trying to raise an army to try to fight the Darkness.
An echo here, of last season – in order to stop the Darkness from being released, Dean would have needed to kill Sam. Here, to fight the Darkness, rather, the deputy would have Sam kill Dean.
So, Dean still thinks of the Bunker as home (and Cas is going to be there to heal them, awwww), while Sam says the car is (and Dean does not reply, choosing instead to start the car).
