Iron Man: fic-related question

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to write MCU!Rhodey. Because the two actors who have played him had such different vibes to me.

IDK. I actually got slashy vibes in the first movie with RDJ and Terrence Howard, but they felt like straight-up bros to me in the second movie with Don Cheadle. I guess I should just pick the vibe I want and go with that?

What are other people's thoughts on this? Or similar situations where the actors change like this? I've never really had to deal with this before.

(related-note: My Natasha/Tony fic is now at 25k+ words. What is my life.)

I hate it when shows/sequels change actors! I never quite believe the second actor, unless the first actor was really crappy and the second blows me away (or I watch out of sequence). I can't really think of a fannish example, though. I saw the second Dumbledore first, never saw either Ruby (SPN), etc.

Yeah, that's how it was for me too. I've heard differing accounts of why they switched actors but for me, ignoring all the behind-the-scenes crap, Rhodey is closer to Terrance Howard, with some comics!Rhodey thrown in. I say go with the slashy vibes if that's what you prefer.

Yeah, I never wrote anything with Dumbledore and Ruby was a canon body-change, so not quite the same thing. It's weird to try to deal with the changes. I mean, the actor for Bruce also changed, but I haven't actually seen the earlier Hulk movie, so I'm just going off Ruffalo's characterization.

Yeah, TH's version worked better for me, especially with Tony, so I'm probably going to base it more on his version. It'll feel weird when I first start writing it no matter which way I go, I suspect. I'll just need to push through.

I've been really reluctant to watch The Incredible Hulk because Ruffalo!Hulk is totally my Hulk now, and it'll be weird to watch Ed Norton (or Eric Bana). I'm even tempted to re-cast Betty, because I can't really see Liv Tyler next to Mark Ruffalo.

Huh, I hadn't thought about that before but I agree with you. They were quite slashy in the the first movie, especially when Rhodey rescues Tony in the desert, and Tony just collapses into him. ♥

But with Don Cheadle, they do seem more just really close friends. I don't get the slashiness off of them in the second one.

And it seems both like the acting was less slashy but so was the writing.
