Iron Man: fic-related question

butterflyI'm having a hard time figuring out how to write MCU!Rhodey. Because the two actors who have played him had such different vibes to me.
IDK. I actually got slashy vibes in the first movie with RDJ and Terrence Howard, but they felt like straight-up bros to me in the second movie with Don Cheadle. I guess I should just pick the vibe I want and go with that?
What are other people's thoughts on this? Or similar situations where the actors change like this? I've never really had to deal with this before.
(related-note: My Natasha/Tony fic is now at 25k+ words. What is my life.)
