Vampire Diaries: 3x09 - I love this show

Just a few more thoughts:
a) Stefan is the most closed-mouthed person in the world, I swear. You know, he could have told Damon and Elena what had happened (he was in the car with Katherine! He could have had her hand over the phone!) but he's Stefan, king of Not Telling People Anything, and that's how he rolls. It's such a contrast against the way that Damon was just communicating all over the damn place. Stefan was fantastic in this episode, though, wasn't he? ♥ I hated when the show did the St. Stefan stuff, but I'm loving the deconstruction of that ideal and how the show is exploring the gray area.

b) Caroline has such a blind spot when it comes to Matt. She says things and I'm all "oh, baby doll, don't go there again. He'll treat you horribly, just like before." Like, this episode where she acts like Matt deserves so much better than Rebekah - oh, Caroline, honey. Please don't put that boy on a pedestal. He does not deserve to be up there. He's just a guy.

c) I love that Stefan's compulsion got taken away because Klaus took it away. Actually, I love that Stefan made a choice (based on his love for his brother) and thus is now in charge of his own morality. Yay, people making choices! Let's see what Stefan does with his free will, yay!

d) The Damon/Elena scenes just killed me. Seriously, guys, how will I even handle it when they kiss? I will explode. There is just so much trust and affection there, and this simmering potential passion, and that they've managed to go through so many horrible things and that they have hurt each other and yet... here they are, and Elena trusts Damon completely. Because she does know him. She knows what he's capable of that's bad and what he's capable of that's good, and she likes him for who he is. I want to pin sparkly hearts up all around them.

e) The Bonnie scenes didn't take up much time, but they were good. I liked that we got both vulnerable!Bonnie and badass-witch!Bonnie.

Damon and Elena are in this great, organically built relationship, where, she started out knowing some of his worst bits, and has seen the good, and it's all been up front. That is so amazing and great, particularly when compared with his brother. And, even if they do not stay together, she is one of HIS people now, as are the other friends he has claimed.

Seriously, yes. It's pretty much the healthiest relationship on the show at this point.

It IS. And, well Damon and Alaric are up there, now that Alaric is remembering that hey, VAMPIRE. So things will work out.

aaaaaaaaah this was making me CRAZY. If they go back to Matt/Caroline again, I don't even know how I will hang. I'm going to have to fast forward through most of their scenes. I really hate the way he speaks to her and the uneven power balance there.

Exactly. And they're having her praise him and worry over him a lot so far this season. We had her being concerned in "The Reckoning", favorably comparing him against Jeremy in "Ghost World", and now this. I DO NOT approve.

And I like Matt! Just... not the way he treats Caroline. She deserves better, but she's always blamed the way Matt behaves toward her on herself, rather than where it belongs. Just like she does with her dad.

Matt can be okay, when he's not with Caroline and when they're not trying to strangely frame him as The Best Person. idk what the writers' hardon is with Matt but it harms the appeal of his character for me. I like characters who are complicated people that have great days when they rise above the odds & their worst selves and then bad days when they give into their worst impulses -- characters that the narrative knows can make mistakes. It's those mistakes and flaws that make their moments of grace more beautiful.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with the Matt stuff. Some of it works well - like, I actually understand why Matt is screwed up and it makes perfect sense given his life and his mom's behavior, his lack of dad, and Vicki's Vickiness. But then the show sometimes doesn't seem to realize that about him, even though they're the ones who created it. But I also felt that way about Stefan sometimes in S2 and they've really deconstructed his behavior a lot this season and have shown that they understood the issues of S2 when it came to Stefan, so I'm hoping that they'll do the same with Matt.

ugh, oh yeah that Jeremy comparison. Because Matt letting go of his dead sister who had attacked him and was trying to murder Elena... totally the same as Jeremy letting go of the dead woman he loves who wasn't trying to hurt ANYONE or be at all destructive. ???

Yes! I mean, when Bonnie was all, "He let go of his sister, Jeremy!" it's like... there's a missing attachment there, Bonnie - he let go of his sister who was trying to kill Elena and who had hit him over the head with a wrench. I did not see Anna hitting anyone over the head with a wrench or setting any cars on fire. Or expressing the faintest desire to do either of those things.

YES, THIS. URGH hate Matt.

Ditto this. As much as I am annoyed with Tyler at the moment, I'd rather Caroline be single than to see her EVER get back together with Matt. I do not get why she's still saying what a wonderful person he is and all that. It's rare that I've seen him be a wonderful person in her presence. I really don't get what the writers are thinking with that.

That was the best! I was initially all ticked off at him for betraying Damon and Elena, but then! They totally pulled a fast one on us there, and I love it.

The Damon/Elena scenes just killed me. Seriously, guys, how will I even handle it when they kiss? I will explode.

*raises hand* Right there with you. I am loving those two together right now. I love, love, love how she kept him from flying off the handle at the end, too, which she now knows how to do because she gets him now.
