Vampire Diaries: 3x09 - Homecoming

butterflya) Elena giving Rebekah back her mother's necklace was just the perfect cap on a gorgeous scene. And then she daggers her because Elena has just realized all over again how incredibly powerful that sibling bond can be and Rebekah and Klaus have been doing their dance ten times longer than Stefan and Damon have been doing theirs. She can't be trusted not to try to save her brother at the last minute - not when she can't even stand to know what the plan to deal with him is.
"It was very Katherine of you."
"Not the way to make me feel better about myself, Damon."
"It was a compliment. Sort of."
lol
And then:
"Do you trust me?"
"Yes." Said with absolute conviction.
"Then you have nothing to worry about."
Another S1 parallel - in 1x11, Bloodlines, Elena asked if she could trust Damon and he didn't answer her. Here, she knows that she can. Nothing will keep him from doing everything in his power to protect the people that he loves.
Also: guh!
b) another thing that killed me - the hopeful look on Klaus's face after he un-compelled Stefan. He wants, so very badly, for Stefan to pick him. Also, I rather enjoyed Klaus killing Mikael, not gonna lie.
c) So, theme of the episode - putting people away for protection. Rebekah and Stefan are taken out of the way in order to keep them from ruining the plan. Tyler forces Caroline out. And Damon successfully sets up and communicates a reasonable plan with Elena that keeps her out of harm's way. Healthy communication in a relationship - will wonders never cease?
d) "I can't be fixed. Understand that I'm okay with it."
"How can you be okay with it?"
Echoes back to me Caroline's dad saying that she'll never be okay, because she's a vampire now. Her dad can't be okay with her. She can't be okay with Tyler. Matt couldn't be okay with any of the supernatural stuff. There's a whole lot of 'not okay' going on in this storyline.
e) *wibbles* Katherine and Stefan conspired together in order to save Damon's life. *wibbles harder* And Katherine managed to out-plan Klaus! Score!
f) Family. The first thing that Klaus wanted to do after his father/not-father was dead - dead dead - was revive his family. Family matters on this show, always.

And oh man, Klaus was carrying the family around all the time all these years because he was waiting to reunite everyone once Scary Dad was dead. OH KLAUS, I KNOW YOU ARE A CRAZY MASS MURDERER BUT COME INTO MY ARMS ANYWAY AND LET ME HOLD YOU.
also, now I know how all of the rabid Elijah fans feel. NOOOOOES MY PRECIOUS REBEKAH TAKE THE DAGGER OUT OR MY TEARS WILL BE AN OCEAN.
I am such an embarrassing person to know right now. lol.

Yes. I didn't really care one way or the other if they undaggered Elijah but I hope my wonderful Rebekah is undaggered VERY QUICKLY.

Katherine - still cares, and I love the place she is in with Damon. They GET one another, and each has their lines. GUH. I just love it. I want them talking on the phone a lot and people just going 'WTF?'

lol, they really are. I don't know why Stefan and Elena try to make plans when they're on the same team as Damon and Bonnie. Let Damon and Bonnie make the plans, guys. They get things done.
Katherine - still cares, and I love the place she is in with Damon. They GET one another, and each has their lines. GUH. I just love it. I want them talking on the phone a lot and people just going 'WTF?'
Yeah, I love this place they're at where Damon has gotten past his hurt and sense of betrayal and he's able to view her objectively, both positive aspects and her faults.

Date: 2011-11-11 11:16 pm (UTC)Damon and Bonnie are getting ALONG now too, which is also terrific, and the 'we are a team, we can save everybody's ass AND snark is so funny.' Because, they can. And will, and then will smite anyone who interrupts or disrupts their day.
Damon is - he doesn't love Katherine anymore, but they are connected, and in much healthier way than her and Stefan - who has to be coked up on blood to even stand up to her, and when he does, she point out 'hi, do not like you like this, and I have a MUCH more awesome plan that involves people not dying, ie, your brother, who CAN plan, and snap out of it, bb.'
And, which brother does she chat with? Damon. He won't throw fits about casual murder, he can handle himself, she doesn't have to TAKE CARE OF HIM, and he is going to be dragging his people out of the ashes when the world ends and then they can party. Katherine can appreciate that.
