Some Thing to Watch Over Me

So, now I'm really getting a Damon/Stefan vibe off of Aidan/Bishop, with the way that Bishop is trying to bring him back to the life. Live blood vs animal blood, but the whole idea that the way he's drinking makes him less strong than a regular vampire. Which I don't recall from the UK series. Actually, I don't recall compelling from the UK series, either. These vampires are reminding me a lot of TVD vampires.

And the whole neighborhood watch thing is entirely new. Jesse seemed to have a bit of a crush on Josh. And the bit with Josh nearly killing the guy (maybe put in because they didn't do the defending Julia from the abusive boyfriend bit?).

Also, I think that Josh may be even more self-hating than George.

I liked the way the 'ghost mentor' storyline played out better than I did in the UK version, actually. I liked that he had to find peace with his own life.

It's interesting that the afterlife isn't set up as the horror that I recall it being depicted as in the UK version (men with ropes and sticks, something like that).

Oh, and the show is set in Boston. I don't remember the pilot mentioning that.

Wouldn't It Be Nice (If We Were Human)

Ah, there's the werewolf mentor. I'm trying to remember the order that the UK version went in and I can't quite recall. He's a lot more anti-vampire than I remember the UK version being. Actually, all the plotlines except the Aidan/Rebecca (Lauren) one seem to be playing out really differently so far. Sally's fiance doesn't seem like he was an asshole and her friend wasn't sleeping with him before Sally died. This Ray has an entirely different vibe than the werewolf mentor in the UK series as well.

The End of the World as We Knew I

Oh, well done, show. If painful. I'd actually convinced myself that Danny wasn't responsible for Sally's death, so the reveal managed to surprise me this time around too (because they'd done other things differently - maybe a little because Danny looks kinda like Michael J. Fox, who I always instinctively trust).

Whoa, Aidan totally bashed out that other vampire's teeth. I think that Mitchell does that at some point, but not this early in the show.

Josh making dinner for... himself and for the other two to basically sit and watch him eat, was cute. Also, the confirmation that Aidan and Josh talk about some stuff off-screen (Aidan told him about Danny being the reason that Sally died). And the were-dad reveal and whatnot.

There's definitely a different vibe with these three than either set of the UK ones.

I am... unsure about the US-Nina (I didn't catch her name), but I think that's mostly because of what a jerk George frequently was to UK-Nina, especially after they got together. I don't want US-Nina to go through the bullshit that UK-Nina has. Like, I like George, but he was so not worth all the shit that he put Nina through (the bad way the George-Nina relationship went is part of why I bailed out of the UK series).

Aiden is much less 'I cannot believe I have to do these terrible things.' Aiden gives the other vampire a chance, after observing him and says 'hell with THAT' and does what has to be done. And Bishop's FACE when he knew what Aiden had done. That was so 'that's my BOY.'

AHAHAHA.

Yes, the Danny reveal in this show was much harder to take because you really didn't think he HAD done it, he did seem like he cared, and then. OW OW OW.
