American Idol: the post-fic fic that I'm not writing

So, as I was replying to comments on Post-Tour Blues, the utter and horribly awkward painfulness of the future Katy/Kris conversation occurred to me. Because, yeah. As far as Katy knows, she and Kris are in the same holding pattern they've been in since Idol started. He makes plans to play the songs for her and have her help him decide... and runs into Adam, plays him the songs, decides based off of Adam's feedback and then has sex with Adam and decides that he needs to get a divorce.

Yeah, that's going to be the Most. Awkward. Conversation. Ever.

Katy: "So, sweetie, I'm ready to hear those songs!"
Kris: "Haha. About that."
Katy: "Yes?"
Kris: "I worked it all out."
Katy: "Oh." (slightly disappointed) "That's nice. That it's all figured out."
Kris: "Yeah."
*moment of slightly awkward silence; mostly Kris's fault*
Katy: "There's some food left over if you want any."
Kris: *the guilt being a weight on his chest* "Oh. That's so sweet."
*he takes a moment to steel himself*
Kris: "IhadsexwithAdam."
Katy: *blinks* "What?"
Kris: "At the very least, we should probably get one of those trial separation things."
Katy: "Wait, sorry. What?"
Kris: "I know, I know that this has to be hard for you."
Katy: "You did what?"
Kris: "I haven't ever really shown any interest in guys before Adam-"
Katy: *interrupting; still clearly shocked* "Kratt?"
Kris: *laughs* "What? That's not really... that's why I thought it was so funny when you pointed it out. Because I wasn't attracted to Matt at all."
Katy: "But Adam-"
Kris: "Since, like, the first time I heard him sing in Hollywood week."
Katy: "We'd only been married a month."
Kris: "But this was the first time we'd had sex! Honest!"
Katy: "You didn't even mention Adam until they started airing the live shows. You mentioned Matt."
Kris: "I didn't really know Adam that well, yet."
Katy: "Enough to be attracted to him!"
Kris: "He's attractive! I'm pretty sure that his really fucking successful career has established that as a fact!"
Katy: "Don't you swear at me, Kristopher Neil!"
Kris: "I'm just saying... immediate attraction isn't based on the details of someone's personality. It's about someone being hot."
Katy: "And you thought Adam was hot."
Kris: "Not in an adulterous way!"
Katy: "Yeah, the evidence is against you on that one!"
Kris: "I didn't know what I was feeling!"
Katy: "Oh, great, so I should just accept whatever you decide we should do. You married me. You love me. You've loved me for over eight years. How can whatever you have with Adam mean more than everything that we have?"
*silence, as Kris reaches for and fails to find words*
*Katy blinks away tears, determined not to break down in front of the man who just cheated on her*
Katy: *in a whisper* "Everything that we had."
Kris: "I am so, so sorry. And I know that doesn't mean much right now-"
Katy: "No, it doesn't."
Kris: "I do love you. I just... I didn't know."
Katy: *voice flat* "Or you wouldn't have married me."
*Kris looks away from her, an admission of guilt*

Yeah. Most awkward conversation ever.
