butterfly: (Kris Allen -- *heart*)

Before I get into the Epic Awesome of the Concert (with Photos), I want to share the results of What Not To Sing's S8 Camp Should-A-Been replay.

Kris Allen! Kris is the third Idol to successfully defend his crown (Kelly Clarkson and David Cook being the other two). Based on nothing but reception of the songs during the time between the performances aired but before the results show, Kris still wins.

Personally, I'm all kinds of thrilled. I mean, I know he's awesome, but it's nice to have numbers crunched to be all validate-y.

So, Camp Should-A-Been's top 13:
1. Kris Allen
2. Allison Iraheta
3. Adam Lambert
4. Alexis Grace
5. Ricky Braddy
6. Felicia Barton
7. Danny Gokey
8. Ju'Not Joyner
9. Lil Rounds
10. Kristen McNamara
11. Scott Macintyre
12. Anoop Desai
13. Jorge Nuñez

Back to what happened in the world where things other than pure performance matter: the concert!

American Idol Concert 2009: Tacoma

First off, I would like to apologize to the people ([livejournal.com profile] aki_hoshi, [livejournal.com profile] ash784365) that I met up with at the beginning of the concert, hung out with, and then lost sight of once my brain realized that KRIS ALLEN was, in fact, in the building. Y'all were awesome and I loved meeting you.

There were, apparently, untapped depths of fangirl inside me, as I made noises tonight that I was not aware that I was capable of making. Also, when Kris Allen was a few feet away from me, my brain utterly died. Luckily, he was far too busy signing autographs and handing out hugs to notice. I did manage to take pictures. But yes. Onto the show.

I enjoyed everyone, even the people that I had been iffy about from the show.

It started with Michael Sarver (pictures here). So. Michael existed and I remember enjoying his songs, but I can't actually remember a thing about it now.

Megan came on next and she was quirky and a lot of fun. Her voice worked better for me in person than tv (pictures here). But between the very child-like animations used for her and very short dress she was wearing, I'm at a loss to figure out what her audience is supposed to be.

Scott was the eighth place finisher, so he came next (photos here). I had fun; he was funny, though apparently with the same jokes he told on Sunday. He seems like such a great guy.

Lil was up next and was the first person of the night to strip onstage (pictures here). She was fun and energetic. Actually putting the words of Single Ladies up on screen reminded of how much I hate the sentiment of the song. It is catchy, though.

Following in Lil's footsteps, Anoop also had a costume change or two (pictures here). I wasn't really feeling the Anoop thing before, though I liked him well enough, but the guy was fantastic and sexy live. You can definitely count me in as a fan now.

Onto Matt (pictures here). I enjoyed Matt's voice tonight! So, maybe the medium of television is what was keeping me from liking him, I don't know. Maybe I would even like his AI performances now (though I won't test the theory on My Funny Valentine). And he is excellent on the piano, really stellar. And kinda charming. I think I'll be good with Matt as long as I never rewatch his My Funny Valentine.

Then the Bottom Six medley'd us into the intermission(photos found here). My favorite parts were Lil and Megan. That may be based on the shallow fact that they looked really hot. Hard to say. Everyone was looking quite elegant and very nice in b&w outfits.

I got back from intermission just in time for Allison's intro (btw, lots of people talking about how Allison was their favorite). Allison was spectacular. She has such impressive stage presence and was every inch the rocker (picture here). Very high-energy and enjoyable. I'd definitely go to a solo Allison concert, based on her performance last night.

Danny was the person in the top four that I was most unmoved by, but I found his voice enjoyable, if not energizing. I did end up sitting down during his second song and stayed there until pretty much the end, when Adam's was due to arrive. I ended up liking him more than expected but I'm not going to sit around waiting for the Danny Gokey tour (pictures of Danny here).

So. Adam.

In a tweet last night, I said that he kinda did come across as a rock god (so. slight apologies to Kara for feeling snarky about her Rock Week comment). He started off us with A Whole Lotta Love and was pretty much entirely made of sex. You know how most people are 80% water? Adam Lambert is 80% sex. It was an awesome, sexually-charged performance and I adored it. And it was just what I needed after Danny's set was over - it got me all excited and pumped again.

Starlight was beautiful. I like the song and I think I like it even better when Adam sings it. Then he slowed it down for Mad World, which was even more amazing in person than on TV. Gorgeous, gorgeous work (first three performances here).

Then Allison came back on stage so that they could do Slow Ride! It was epically awesome. The two of them have so much chemistry together on-stage. And he intro'd her as his 'little sister'. Cutest thing ever (pics here).

He finished up with the Bowie medley and I really adored it, too. Again, like with Allison, he made me very eager to see where he goes with his tours in the future (pics of the medley here). Nothing but really good things to say about Adam.

Then it was time for Kris and my brain melted into a puddle at my feet. I have never never felt so fangirly and overwhelmed in my life. I just wanted to spend the whole time listening and giggling and singing along and screaming and staring at him. Which I'm pretty sure I did.

He started off with Heartless and it was just... seriously, I lose my adjectives. I would not only go to the Kris Allen concert, I would buy multiple copies of his cd to give to my friends and family (I've already made my mom a huge fan -- she really loves Brand New Shoes now). I've preemptively asked my mom to go with me to whenever the solo Kris Allen tour happens.

Heartless was epic, No Boundaries sounds better every time that I hear it, Ain't No Sunshine was like bottled perfection, Bright Lights was delightful and shiver-worthy, and Hey Jude was the warmest and fuzziest moment I've ever had in a concert or theater (pictures here). So much love.

Both Adam and Kris did here exactly what they did on the show so well and it made for a very good showcase of their respective (highly impressive) talents. I'm really looking forward to the music that all three of the signed artists are going to put out; they were definitely the best and they were all spectacular.

Then we had the final group number (pics here) and it was delightful and really the only song that these ten people are capable of sounding good together on (it's baffling how poorly they seem to mesh as a group, vocally). It's really cute how it seemed like whenever Adam was soloing a bit, Kris was staring at him and vice versa. Very adorable.

Afterwards, I wandered back to the barricades and took some pictures (here). When Kris and Adam passed each other in line, they did a really cute play-fight that, sadly, I missed snapping a shot of. It was adorable, though, trust me.

All in all, a highly enjoyable night. I'm glad I went.
