Star Trek 2009: Return of the Fic Recs

I'm reading "Killing Time" and holy shit, you guys, this is hella slashy. There's the fact that Kirk and Spock have an 'open door' policy regarding each other's minds (in fact, Spock wonders if the reason that he's having the same dreams as Jim is because he might be picking them up). When playing chess doesn't make Jim feel better, he and Spock go for a walk in the on-ship garden, where Jim ends up thinking about pon farr and how Spock deserves "someone with whom the Vulcan could bond, someone who could walk the path with him, balance him, love him" (22-23).

Once the plot of the episode has kicked in, Spock dreams of Jim's face. He has an instinctive trust for Jim, despite the Romulan plot setting them against each other (rebellious Ensign Kirk and a Captain Spock who seems kinda depressed). There's all sorts of slashy plot elements. I would not be shocked if I found out that the author was also writing in slash zines, because. Yeah.

Just finished "Dagger of the Mind" in my TOS rewatch (note: started with "Where No Man Has Gone Before" because it is so obviously before the rest: Gary's there, no Uhura, Sulu in the wrong color uniform, and then went through the rest in disc order, something discovered to be a bit of a mistake for the two episodes filmed next, as Uhura was there, but in gold! (she looks much better in red, btw). Also, have found women in pants in this version as well. It would appear to be fully optional both in TOS and in XI). We've just gotten into the third disc and have already run across so many sci-fi tropes. I wonder which TOS invented and which it merely adapted to its purposes (did anything do 'fuck or die' before ST?).

7. And Already It Is As Old As You Are by pervyficgirl. Spock Prime/T'Pol. Two Vulcans who found their best love in humanity find peace together.

8. Come As You Are by ryann_blackwood. K/S. Kirk has just come back from a planet of very hot people. Spock isn't jealous. At all. Of anyone.

9. Compatibility Test by rhaegal. K/S. In which Spock believes he's discovered the reason that humans engage in recreational sex.

10. Throwing Down the Gauntlet by jedibuttercup. Spock tracks down Kirk to apology for joining the crew so late.

11. Tactile Pleasures by corpus_invictus. 'Kirk, wanting to right by Spock, and wanting to make their relationship meaningful, decides to take their relationship slowly, and, instead of having sex right away, decides to do (what he thinks are) harmless acts of affection, such as holding hands and brief touches. Only, for those of Vulcan descent, the fingers/hands are much more sensitive than for humans.'

12. five people spock loved and one he fell in love with by tasheila. K/S. Sweet. I really enjoyed this.

13. Ricochet Moon by waldorph. Uhura/Spock; preslash K/S. Spock can see the shape of the future, the way that Kirk is already changing him.

14. Tremors by corpus_invictus. K/S. Shower sex. Kirk wonders when he became so soft-hearted.

TOS recs:
1. Hungry by Lyra. Post Star Trek I; Spock comes home to Jim. K/S.

2. From the Depths by Lyra. Post-"Amok Time". Spock wasn't cured by the fight. K/S.

3. No and Yes by rhonnie. Post-"Journey to Babel". Spock's dad lets slip to Kirk the knowledge that he and Spock are bonded. This is news to Kirk. K/S.

Killing Time sounds hella awesome. I think those people at amazon who gave it bad reviews did not have the same slashy priorities that you have. Thus, I will try to find it at the library.

Thanks for the recs! If you liked "Killing Time," you should also read "The Procrustean Petard" published in Star Trek: the New Voyages 2. It's a collection, of all things, of fan fiction back in the 1970's. In this story, Kirk gets turned into a beautiful woman and protective!alpha!Spock is so worth the read :D
