I kinda want RTD's book, because I'm interested in the process behind writing the show and I've enjoyed the excerpts that I've read.

1. Penny. Penny sounds kinda interesting. As described in the text, she's basically a Donna that the Doctor falls in love with. It makes me vastly curious about how S4 would have gone with a love interest rather than a best friend-type, considering that RTD already knew that Billie would be returning (even if he didn't know how long he'd have her).

2. Confirmation that RTD didn't request or expect the two Moffat-love interests was both unsurprising yet satisfying. Confirmation that RTD doesn't edit Moffat's scripts is interesting because a) that explains why they don't fit into the series arcs and b) I wonder if that's a choice that RTD came to naturally or if he was urged to it and c) it really makes me think that Moffat only has two plots, which would not be encouraging for S5 if I planned on watching it.

3. RTD was, naturally enough, conflicted about the JE resolution. What he says in the book fits very naturally into what Billie said at one point about being there for David's 'last story'. This not being David's last story is what complicated things, as Russell was always planning on spinning off the Doctor's hand into a clone of the Tenth Doctor (which I kinda suspected he did have some plan/idea in place, because why would he make it so important otherwise? And I'm very glad that he was always planning on that resolution because it means that he doesn't fundamentally think of the cloned version of the Doctor as 'lesser', it's just the double DTs making the visuals bad), but it was still having David there that made the story feel weird.

Visually speaking, it's much easier for Rose to stay with a humanish Doctor rather than the fully Time Lord Doctor if only one of them looks like the man that she's been trying to fight her way back to all this time ("really great hair"). Having David as both of them meant that, no matter what, one of men who looked like Rose's Doctor would be left alone.

4. I wasn't shocked to learn that RTD did a lot of rewriting on "Fires of Pompeii", as it's an episode where I'm always surprised to see that RTD's name isn't the one credited. It feels very him.
